Washington had been convicted in 2015 in connection to the murder of 52-year-old Hamid Waraich, the owner of a Boost Mobile cell phone store, who was fatally shot in the back during a robbery. He was paroled in 2021 after serving six years.

You don't say?

If I was on the GJ, I wouldn’t indict him.

All honest citizens need to take up that attitude. The police won't protect us, the prosecutors are against us. We the People must protect ourselves and each other, on the street and in the courtroom.

“Nine shots? Sorry you go to jail”

Actually in Texas if you shoot in self defense there is no limit to how many times you shoot the perp. So no he’s not going to jail.

If I was on the jury, I would bill the family for the bullets and award it to the shooter.

But how could the last shot be manslaughter if the perp was already dead?

the shot after the threat has passed

Shooting a dead man can't be considered murder in my law book. Nor can short range target practice......LOL!

cycling another 10,000 rounds into the perps body.

At that point, I might politely ask the shooter to reimburse the shop owner the cost of repairs to the floor.

I’d vote innocent.

Senor Alvarez (name changed to protect the innocent) was there, you weren't, and neither were I or any of the rest of us.

Eight or Nine, or nineteen, makes no difference.

Somewhere up around, oh... let's say thirty-nine or so, is getting kinda gratuitous. He would need a talking-to about something...

I just came off a 90 day grand jury.

Looking at the video, I don’t think we would have had enough votes to indict.

ADAs don’t have to work THAT hard to get indictments. My guess is they will not be “aggressively” going after this. They are covering their butts.

Well worth a look.

let a grand jury decide

I just remembered: this is Texas. They put almost every defensive shooting in front of a grand jury. And almost every time, the grand jury returns "no true bill". And the matter is definitively closed for all time.

Another excerpt...

“Washington had been convicted in 2015 in connection to the murder of 52-year-old Hamid Waraich, the owner of a Boost Mobile cell phone store, who was fatally shot in the back during a robbery. He was paroled in 2021 after serving six years.

One of the victim’s sons, Sean Waraich, called Washington ‘an evil criminal that took joy from harassing and robbing innocent families.’

He called the taqueria vigilante a ‘true hero,’ and said he ‘did the right thing in stopping the robber and protecting the community from a dangerous perpetrator.’

Aman Waraich, another son of Hamid, said: ‘If the guy who stopped Eric was around 10 years ago, maybe I’d still have my dad.’”

“NINE shots??? Sorry, you go to jail.”

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I get the sentiment, but aren’t police basically trained to shoot until they are out of bullets if a perp is armed?

So, I’m no expert - I’m just asking: Shouldn’t a civilian be justified to perform in a similar fashion?

FU DailyMail...

“Eric Eugene Washington, 30, died after being shot nine times - with one bullet hitting him execution-style in the head - by a vigilante customer who was said to be ‘protecting everyone’ in the Texas restaurant.”

What a load of crap. The hero STOPPED a violent armed felon threatening multiple lives.

So what you’re saying is, if you shoot someone in Texas and they go down and no longer have control of the weapon, you can go up to them and shoot them in the head? Is that what you’re saying?
