SoCal Gas, which supplies natural gas throughout Southern California, warned consumers this weekend that their next bills will be unusually large, blaming what it calls unusually cold winter weather across the nation.
In an email to consumers, the company wrote:
There’s no easy way to put this: January bills are likely to be higher than usual. An unprecedented cold snap across the nation in part has caused natural gas market prices in the West to more than double between December and January – much higher than expected. As a result, SoCalGas residential customers can expect the typical January bill likely to be more than double the typical bill last January, assuming the same amount of natural gas is used.
Natural gas prices have also been exacerbated by other factors. Russia’s war in Ukraine has strained global supplies, and has encouraged the U.S. to prioritize Europe’s natural gas needs. The Biden administration has also taken a negative approach to oil and gas development, shutting down construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and making it more difficult to explore and develop oil resources on federal lands.

The American people are very vulnerable right now because almost all of our natural gas comes from a country that is currently run by a government that hates us.
I suspect that most of our natural gas is produced here in the United States - which in no way suggests that you are wrong...

That’s exactly what I’m saying.
They didn’t build a pipeline to Texas so now NatGas will climb just like Gasoline.
Build a pipeline and watch prices fall. Don’t build it and kiss energy dependent industry goodbye.
More price increases on everything, not just energy, is coming. Biden and his merry crooked crew’s continued war on gas and oil is causing, and will continue to cause, price increases on everything you buy. Companies always pass increased taxes and costs on to the consumer. They have no choice since their only other option is to continue losing money until they go out of business altogether.
People are going to have to make decisions as to which discretionary spending is going to have to be cut this month, and again next month. Heat and food has to come first. This will have an effect on small businesses first, and they will start laying off and closing shop. Media will not report on those closings. However, they will report on the lay-offs by those such as Goldman-Sachs, which announced lay-offs today of 3,200 employees.
The media can wrap up this awful, worsening economy in whatever language and pretty bows it wishes, but people know the truth of their finances and the prices in their local grocery store. It’s bad and people know it.
Anyone who says otherwise, even here on FR, is a troll or government plant, because no one could actually be so financially blind as to not see what is staring them in the face.
Figured I would post a comment, in case any "low information" Freepers incorrectly assumed the gas was somehow coming all the way from Russia...

As a matter of fact, the economy is doing so great that WSJ has the article below in it’s online edition today.
“The Debate Swirling Inside HR Departments: How to Lay Off Workers”
When exactly to fire employees, whether to cut once or multiple times and how much severance to offer can vex executives; the Zoom question.
_______
The above is not a front page article you normally see in a booming economy.
They know it, but for way too many, it has absolutely no affect on their voting. They are perfectly willing to be victimized...

Wait, wait, wait. Doesn't California claim to be the way for the rest of the country/world to follow?
I’ve got an idea. Let’s bring in millions more freeloading foreigners this year!!!

Restaurants need to put a ‘surcharge’ on their menus.
They believe what the television tells them: This is Putin's fault.
“...assuming the same amount of natural gas is used.”
(continuing...)
Most customers used more, because t was really cold. So customers should be prepared for not only a doubling in PRICE of gas, but a large increase in the USE of gas.

That part of reality was left to the customers to figure out.
