Russian forces have cut the main north-south highway, that was a supply link for Ukraine forces, north of Bakhmut [Ukraine].
Soledar to the north of that Russian break-through, is in danger of complete encirclement.

So, based on your logic...
We should allow the Russians to roll right to the Polish border, unimpeded? Just because they have nukes?
Or is it possible that we already know their military is not going to use nukes based on the current scenarios.
Your thinking suggests that people don’t talk; that there are not agreements or counter threats that are not made public.
The Russians are full of bluster. Once a person stops being intimidated by that, their weakness is pretty evident.
You need to stop being so emotional about this stuff and look at it pragmatically. Even if they take Bakhmut, the cost will be similar for every little city from there to Dnipro.
Thats a lot of dead and wounded Russians; and a bunch of equipment for a stretch of land that should have been rolled up in a week or so—last March.

Putin misjudged and Ukraine is exposing how backward and primitive Russia still is.
NATO is getting larger, stronger, more modern, and more united and refreshed in the reasons for its existence.

Russia’s typical strategy is to lose the first year of a war, then throw enough meat at the problem that they win.
But Russia doesn’t have the people to do that for long. Peter Zahain thinks Russia is demographically going to collapse soon.
The Ukraine isn’t much better. I do not believe all the fighters were in the Ukraine last year.

The Red Army failed to withdraw from a salient in May 1942 that pointed from Kharkiv to near Zapporizia, while Army Group South held the Western Donbass - a loss of 250,000 Red Army to encirclement. Army Group South advanced on the flank from Western Donbass, which includes Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. That pretty much ended the Red Army tendency to hold territory at any cost.
One would think that RF could now advance across the Steppe from Belgorod to Zapporizia via Poltava and simtaneously from the South along the Dneiper. But this would go against something that may be embedded in RF doctrine because of 1942. So I think the 500,000 new forces will be brought up and deployed methodically until the AFU is out of the Donbass, including Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, completely. The RF will move quickly only if Western wunderwaffen will make a material difference - and it won't.

The important part of this is that Russians have fire control over the supply roads from Bakmut to Soledar and Bakmut to Siversk...it’s covered in today’s update from Military Summary Channel

Russian forces HAVE NOT extended as far west, as Weeb Union originally had thought, earlier on 01/09/2023.

From An AFU Officer In Soledar: How To Effectively Fight The Wagners
1) Have light “armor” at a distance of short jumps. As soon as our drone operators notice movements of the Wagners towards our positions, they inform the “armor” to QUICKLY suppress the Wagner attack- even with machine guns. If there is no “armor”, then it’s difficult to restrain such assault actions.
2) The MAIN reason for the success of Wagner small assault actions may be the lack of COUNTER-BATTERY combat. Our artillery begins to shell the attackers instead of SUPPRESSING THE ENEMY’S ARTILLERY. Without the enemy’s mortar cover of these assaults, the Wagners simply die.
3) And for effective counter-battery combat, a large number of DRONES and operators are NEEDED in correct positions.

Notes:
(1) “Light armor” sounds to me like a rapid response counter attack team deployed very near the flank of points of attack.
These teams could be armed with machine guns and rpg’s as Wagner usually attacks in small groups of around 8 soldiers. RAPID is the key concept- 2 or 3 minutes might be too late.
(2) AFU counter-battery must change targets to enemy artillery/mortar positions.
(3) A lot more drones are needed- quickly!
Ukraine troops need thousands of 60mm mortars.
Srednik monitors the front daily.
Putin is pouring masses of conscripts into this meatgrinder in an apparent effort to manufacture some kind of victory. Ukrainian leadership is not so stupid. The “Cossack Brotherhood” (from their anthem) will bend and will not break.
Fear not. rasPutin’s days are numbered.
