Republican Sen. Ben Sasse officially steps down, opening up appointment to seat
NBC News ^ | Jan. 8, 2023 | Summer Concepcion

Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, officially resigned from the Senate on Sunday as he prepares to step back into academia as president of the University of Florida.

Sasse, who led Midland University, a small private collage in his home state, prior to running for Senate, submitted his resignation last month saying that he would leave office Jan. 8 — two years into his second term.

Sasse's departure opens up the seat to an appointment from Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, a Republican. The state's previous governor, Republican Pete Ricketts, has said he would seek the appointment.

No, the Board of Governors selects the University President.

DeSantis has been doing a lot of good things in Florida though.

Anyone, even a Democrat, would be an improvement.

Typical pay for a University president is $1.7M/yr.

Plus perqs, including a paid for mansion on campus, chauffered vehicles.

$1.7M is nowhere near the top, which can reach $6.5M.

He’s going to be about $3M

“Politicians running universities, news rooms, or social media companies is a very, very, bad idea.”

I generally agree, but I have heard that Mitch Daniels did an outstanding job as President of Purdue.

Yep, the wokies went crazy as soon as it was announced that Sasse was even being considered. With DeSantis in office the Board of Governors knew they were covered so they basically ignored the lefties.

The alphabet community dislikes themselves so a target to hate like sasse is a no brainer to hire. Maybe something good will come from this.
