It appears you are thinking linearly as in checkers; while what occurred behind the scenes was chess.

There was little doubt KM would win the Speakership position; Trump's role in the issue was an essential influencer who wished to stake out a position that would be comfortable with KM in the future.

Trump knew full well there would be an attempt to cure KM of his Rino inclinations and it is absurd to think he would have objected to such efforts.
