Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Half of the world's glaciers will melt and disappear before the turn of the next century, according to alarming new research that predicts greater fallout from global warming despite meaningful efforts in recent years to address environmental concerns.
The study, published Thursday in the journal Science, projects that nearly 50% of the Earth's natural ice will dissolve by the year 2100, which is much quicker than scientists previously calculated if the planet warmed by only 1.5C -- a benchmark set by hundreds of nations to cut emissions and protect more land for nature and the environment.
The world's oceans would rise dramatically under such a scenario and lead to flooding and other major disasters around the world, according to the study, which analyzed glacial land ice but excluded Greenland and the Antarctic ice sheets.
Glacier ice melt accounts for more than one-third of the rise in sea levels, scientists say. Melting occurs naturally, but the climate crisis and increased temperatures have sped up the decline.

But according to AOC, won’t we all be dead by then anyway?
The presumption in all stories like this is that we all agree that global warming is man caused. WRONG!
Glacier melt is to be expected in these inter glacial periods.
The next glacial period is due in about 3,200 years, give or take.
That’s good. That should be plenty of time for polar bears to learn to swim…
So we get all the facts straight. There were a few times when glaciers met from the north and south at the equator. There were times within the short history of man when you could walk from France to New York on ice. That last Glacier period was a mere 20,000 years ago. The glaciers are still here in part. In many areas we live on the results left behind. The glaciers gave us the great lakes. 10,000 years ago we could walk to Norway, England and Ireland from France on land, not ice.
So this has been going on for many thousand years. Our earth is 4 billion years old. And we have found fossils of palm trees and Alligators within the arctic circle. Which proves the earth has recently (within the past million years) been as much as 30 degrees warmer. Climate change is not new. It is how the earth works. We have been much warmer and much cooler before and after humans arrived. And the earth thrived. And also the plants and animals thrived. Climate change is natural.
Tell me if I have this wrong. Back in my the ice age there were no glaciers, there was snow and ice pack. When the earth warmed after the ice age, glaciers were formed as the snow and ice pack began to melt. Glaciers don’t grow, from year to year, on average. Melting IS a basic feature of glaciers and eventually there isn’t anything to melt.
Oh thanks a lot. Now I have the song stuck in my head.
“You’re not that old, are you?”
Unfortunately..
“GLOBAL WARMING” not “CLIMATE CHANGE”
Narrative failure.
Not so great in places where the glaciers feed the local water supply.
Not saying they aren’t or are not going to disappear in 100 years. Ans seeing how it is the cultists saying it I would bet my money on glaciers becoming much much larger. Environmental alarmism is the only “science” with a 100% failure rate.
I thought The Goracle changed them all to water back in 2005.....
Blah blah! They never stop.
Is this a joke?
Hell... I remember back in the 70s when the glaciers were going to cover all of Canada and 1/2 of the US ...the sun was dying and I assume it still is..../s
So no one around now can say “you guys were wrong” then. Unless we get cryogenically preserved so we can do it out of spite.
Frank Sinatra used to give a toast to large groups:
“To all of our wives and our girlfriends. And may they never meet each other.”
Sure thing - now get lost!
Pure, unadulterated BS.Sometimes, I’d like to take that bogus hockey stick graph and beat these climate grifters over the head with it. I’ll take my time in the penalty box.
That is about when Pfizer will release their research files on the jab. Coincidence???
I know of this beach house recently bought by a former ‘resident that obviously doesn’t believe the sea levels are rising.
No, not algore, he was a VP.
