In the not-so-distant past, scientists predicted that global temperatures would surge dramatically throughout this century, assuming that humans would rely heavily on fossil fuels for decades. But they are revising their forecasts as they track both signs of progress and unexpected hazards.
Accelerating solar and wind energy adoption means global warming probably will not reach the extremes once feared, climate scientists say. At the same time, recent heat, storms and ecological disasters prove, they say, that climate change impacts could be more severe than predicted even with less warming.
Researchers are increasingly worried about the degree to which even less-than-extreme increases in global temperatures will intensify heat and storms, irreversibly destabilize natural systems and overwhelm even highly developed societies. Extremes considered virtually impossible not long ago are already occurring.
But the latest projections of warming nevertheless show humanity has made progress at reining in some of its planet-warming emissions, scientists said.
“We model the individual impact of hazards, but we don’t model the potential ripple impacts through society,” said Luke Kemp, a research associate at the Center for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge in Britain.
And Kemp said it’s also important not to assume the latest global warming forecasts will become reality, and to keep in mind that what seems remote remains possible.

I think you are mistaken. "We" did not go along with it. Lots of us have been fighting, for a long time. The left seized control of nearly all the Media decades ago. They have been controlling the information flow.
Now, Conservatives are getting a small amount of the Media, and lots of people are having their eyes opened to how our Constitution has been ignored and our institutions corrupted by Progressive dogma.

I’ve been screaming since “Global Warming” reared it’s head in the 90’s it was bull$hit. If you look at the relationship between sunspot activity and our global weather you will see the two are intertwined. We are at the end of an inter-glacial period, when sunspots disappear and the end of the solar wind will cause the earth to be covered in clouds (cosmic rays cause this). The result will be the next Ice Age. Probably last at least a million years. Scientists have been saying they don’t understand the mechanism behind Ice Ages, but we know stars similar to our sun go “silent” for long periods. It is the only explanation for what causes this phenomenon.
The warmists knew that the brief warming would end around 2000 and they could claim they stopped the warming with the regulations they hoped to impose. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the regulations they wanted in place, so now the CO2 is no longer warming the planet but causing bad weather.
I still wait for the coming ice age.

right now they are freeking out about the train of rain storms coming into the western states... and the weatherman still cant predict the weather tomorrow.

It has already been shown that many of the surface temperature reporting stations were producing highly dubious data for decades. Official weather stations were located on airport tarmacs, next to building heat exhausts, on tar rooftops and other locations greatly affecting their accuracy.
In my small hometown the official weather station was for years located within a few feet of a west facing brick wall. As kids were would ride our bicycles down the narrow alley between this wall and the weather station and immediately noticed how much heat was radiating off those bricks. Locals always complained that the official reported temperature was often many degrees warmer than their backyard thermometers. When the long time weather reporter died the station was moved to an open backyard and the locals noted the reported highs were more in agreement with their thermometers.
