Rep.-Elect John James (R-MI) nominated Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for the seventh speakership ballot on Thursday after six separate votes between Tuesday and Wednesday did not result in the election of a speaker of the 118th House of Representatives.

James, a freshman and one of the first two black Republican West Point graduates ever elected to the House, along with fellow freshman Rep.-Elect Wesley Hunt (R-TX), told his colleagues, “The work we promised the American people we would do, we’re welching on that promise,” as speaker votes wane on.

"McCarthy is a Loser and a Putz. Time to give it up."

He would rather burn it down than give it up.

I hear he might be making deals with Dems to give them greater committee inputs.

Trump for speaker. Let McCarthy do the real work. While Trump gavels down the democrats and sits behind biden for the state of the union. also he would stop funding for the fbi until they turned over the j6 records.

The work we promised the American people we would do, we’re welching on that promise,

You have a hard choice. You go along with the Senate and Biden or you make sure nothing gets done, and you entertain the world with you investigations - though to be fair, Gawdy already wore the gilt off that one for you.

MAGA wants you to do nothing and to it really well.

Charlie Sheen style winning? That’s what a McCarthy win would be.

Uh oh, people are going to start calling James a RINO... (S)

I knew when he didn’t challenge the fraud in 2020, just bent over and conceded.

House Republicans voted on Wednesday to keep Rep. Liz Cheney in GOP leadership despite her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump last month, with a strong majority of the conference rejecting the challenge from Trump allies to punish the Wyoming Republican.

The conference voted 145-61 in a secret ballot, after members spent hours venting frustrations about Cheney's vote, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's past support for conspiracy theories and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's leadership of the conference following Trump's defeat.

McCarthy, who has been criticized by colleagues for shifting statements about Trump's responsibility for the storming of the Capitol, endorsed Cheney and encouraged Republicans to keep her on the leadership team.

Whoever is speaker, the GOP may just go on finding new ways to lose.
