Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) sent a letter to the Architect of the Capitol on Tuesday questioning why House Speaker candidate Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was already inhabiting the Speaker’s office amid an intraparty battle over the House’s top leadership position.
“I write to inform you that the Speaker of the House Office located in the U.S. Capitol Building is currently occupied by Rep. Kevin McCarthy,” Gaetz said in the letter.
“As of this morning, the 117th Congress adjourned sine die, and a Speaker from the 118th Congress has not been elected,” he continued. “After three undeciding votes, no member can lay claim to this office.”
McCarthy failed to secure a majority for his Speakership bid in three consecutive votes on Tuesday, leading Republican leaders to adjourn for the day. A group of 19 GOP lawmakers, including Gaetz, consistently opposed McCarthy on all three rounds, with Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) joining the anti-McCarthy group in the final vote of the day

He is not even entitled to a vacant Janitors cubicle somewhere in the nether reaches of the house basement.
Since he is not currently an elected government official he is a CIVILIAN and the Sergent at arms / Capital police should arrest him and escort him to jail awaiting trial.
Soros told him to go ahead and move in.
Congressman Kevin McCarthy represents the 20th District in California
The architect is Art Vandelay - a man of many talents, Architect, Marine Biologist and Importer/Exporter. With all those balls in the air he probably never finished the Capitol -
Congressman Kevin McCarthy represents Davos in Switzerland.
bkmk
Congressman Kevin McCarthy represents the 20th District in California
“And he’s showing why he shouldn’t be Speaker.”
1000%👍
LOL, and who in Congress doesn't represent the rich contributors?
Or, he is getting on with the job in anticipation of a favorable election outcome.
Perhaps that is premature but if he loses, it won’t really matter.
Gaetz is being petty. It’s personal with him.
“We’d be p1ssed to the moon if a democrat did this and hadn’t been formally elected Speaker.”
Exactly. Hubby didn’t think there was anything wrong with this. I asked what he’d say if it were Pelosi pulling the same stunt.
Pelosi and McCarthy seem to have about the same degree of hubris and entitlement.
I will make this completely clear. Anyone that makes a career out of government is the enemy to America. They lack the principles, values, courage and ability to build in the private sector. They exist solely on the work of others. And they don’t even say ‘thank you’.
I’m about done with Republicans. When Republicans politicians fight each other instead of fighting Democrats and doing what their constituents want, then you know they are in politics purely for themselves. Everything the 20 holdouts want is completely reasonable. McCarthy is fighting tooth and nail to essentially disenfranchise Republican voters. McCarthy want the status quo in which a few make all the decisions in writing shitty legislation and the many have several hours to not read the legislation and then vote for it. The vast majority of Republican congressmen seem fine with this and support McCarthy. That’s where I have a problem. It’s the vast majority of Republicans that I have issues. In short, the GOP has left me, and it’s not recent. There has been zero movement in the right direction for decades.
“What has he promised to the swamp?”
The question is: “What has he promised to the lobbyists and the CCP?”. He IS the swamp.
He’s terrified the the illegitimate income stream to support him and the little lady, Frank Luntz, might disappear.
Right now it looks like just the Freedom Caucus.
He’s a pretty good latex salesman.
What flummoxes me is why Trump is backing him.
Possible Trump position statement: "Look, critics call me a divider. Well I tried to unite the GOP but it looks like Kev is not the guy for SOTHOR. I will not endorse anyone at this time."
Would be a great MAGA move!!
Has the Architect of the Capitol responded back?
“The architect? Wasn’t he done when the building was finished?”
Said the architect:
” Denial is the most predictable of all human responses. But, rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.”
