WASHINGTON — For a second consecutive day, a band of 20 ultraconservative rebels blocked GOP leader Kevin McCarthy from winning the speaker’s gavel, just hours after former President Donald Trump called on House Republicans to back him and "close the deal."
Between Tuesday and Wednesday, six votes were held on the House floor to choose a speaker; each time, the rebels stuck together and voted for someone else, denying McCarthy the 218 votes he needed to win.
With both McCarthy allies and foes deeply dug in, it ensures that chaos will reign in the House for the foreseeable future under the new GOP majority.
During the fourth, fifth and sixth ballots on Wednesday, McCarthy — a California Republican who has served in leadership for the past 14 years — received support from more than 90% of the 222 GOP members. Earlier in the day, he was nominated by Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, a member of the far-right Freedom Caucus who warned his fellow conservatives that their opposition will end up hurting their cause.
"We're on the precipice of such a destructive argument today. I plead with all— all of my Republican colleagues, let cooler, more rational heads prevail. Let us unite as Republicans to elect the next Speaker of the House," Davidson said.
But the McCarthy foes showed no signs of backing down. In the three votes Wednesday, they rallied behind Rep. Byron Donalds, a Black Florida conservative who won his second term in November.
Firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., nominated her fellow Freedom Caucus colleague, Donalds, saying she was not swayed by Trump — "my favorite president" — calling her to tell her to "knock this off."
"The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, 'sir, you do not have the votes and it’s time to withdraw,'" Boebert said of Trump to scattered boos.

and you would be correct.
This is slightly less dumb and obnoxious than your usual sophistry ... therefore, where did you steal it from? LOFL.
FRacebook?
GOBshite Briefing Room?
Patrinaughtsnever.win?
4chan/pol/?
LOFL. Did you make sure to bloviate: 'Hey, did you see how much shit i dumped on FR last night?' Meaningless lives of meaningless people.
Someone recently posted a thread like:
From FR in 3023
The ritual of choosing a Speaker of the House continues,
lost in history with the meaning and significance long forgotten.
I wish the GOP Senate had stood up to McConnell like this.
It was a state issue before Trump.
Just so everyone knows the mods are pulling threads that report the truth just because the representative used foul language. And words were even sanitized with *
“Rep. Crenshaw uses profanity, calls colleagues “clowns”
Obviously can’t print his words. See here:

Yeah, well, they figure you forfeit your black card when you aren’t democrat.
Joe said it out loud and seems most all agree. If you don’t vote for me, you ain’t black
I think there was more pushback when Obama said — “Stop complainin, stop grumblin, stop cryin ‘put on your marching shoes” to the black caucus.
Which was intentional sabotage.
That’s when FOX was D-E-D dead to me.
McCarthy is a compromised, Deep State puppet. No way he will sign off on any investigations on Jan 6th, the evolution of COVID and Hunter Biden’s laptop. Let em keep voting until he’s forced to bow out as a candidate for speaker. The zero hour for the GOP is here and only 20 in the House and just a handful in the Senate get it!
Rinos threatened the conservatives an hour before the first vote. That soured and steeled and increased the conservative vote (was 5, but now is 20) against the heir Rino.
Rinos made a mistake, they have to fix it. Concede on all the demands.
How many GOP critters will reach around the aisle for a consensus candidate?

RE: With both McCarthy allies and foes deeply dug in, it ensures that chaos will reign in the House for the foreseeable future under the new GOP majority.
Remember the reaction to the Newt majority with the government shutdown later? GOP was supposed to give in but didn’t——at first.
Two known today as: “the 21-day shutdown of 1995–1996 during the Bill Clinton administration over opposition to major spending cuts; and the 16-day shutdown in 2013 during the Obama administration caused by a dispute over implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).”
During these money still flowed to all entitlements, Congress got back pay for each day delayed and the public could not enter national parks (oh, the humanity) until it was over. Dems learned to hold on strongly and not budge, followed by meek GOP giving in and looking bad as the things their voters wanted were flushed down the drain.

Good one.
Remember in 1776 (film) John Adams said: “I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace, that two are called a law firm, and that three or more become a congress.”
LOL...Yes, Kevin, go...Channeling Cromwell's comment to parliament in 1653:
It is not fit that you should sit here any longer. You have sat here too long for any good you have been doing lately … In the name of God go.
McCarthy could be the ‘76/‘77 Tampa Bay Bucs! 26 in a row.
