Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has slammed Republican members of Congress who are opposed to electing Representative Kevin McCarthy as the next speaker.
Gingrich, a Republican, told Fox News' Sean Hannity on Tuesday that the 20 GOP members who voted against McCarthy were taking "the conference hostage" and appeared to compare them to "terrorists."

“Terrorist” has become a very worn out word in the last two decades.
At the end of the day Newt is what is called “a native”. That is, a true beltway player who cannot think outside that box. The country is at the precipice and the usual way of doing things will not save us.

In terms of optics, there’s a really easy response for the GOPers. Something like; “This is a healthy process. We want to make damn sure we don’t end up with a self-serving, anti-American hypocrite like Nancy Pelosi as speaker.”
God bless the courageous opponents of McCarthy. It’s insane to back an obvious loser just because it’s “his turn.” It’s time for a compromise candidate for emerge and unify the caucus.
