TRUMP ENDORSED: 'Kevin McCarthy Will Do a Good Job as Speaker of the House'
PJ Media ^ | 01/04/2023 | Stephen Green

Donald Trump endorsed Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker early Wednesday, after a day of waffling by the former president — and a day of chaos on the House floor — kept the new GOP majority without an official leader.

“Some really good conversations took place last night,” Trump posted to Truth Social (with caps for emphasis), “and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA.”

Emphasis in the original, because Trump.

McCarthy, a rare California Republican, failed to secure enough support from members of his own party in three separate votes. It’s been more than a century since a would-be Speaker has struggled this hard, but 19 Republicans remain determined to get their way — or risk turning over the Speaker’s gavel to Nancy Pelosi’s protégé, Hakeem Jeffries.

“A group of five conservatives led by [Arizona Republican Andy] Biggs and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.),” PJ Media’s Matt Margolis wrote last night, “have publicly stated that they will not support McCarthy under any circumstances and have called on him to stand down to make room for a more viable candidate.”

So here’s the trillion-dollar question: Will even Trump’s endorsement be sufficient to move Biggs’ and Gaetz’s MAGAmeter far enough to vote for McCarthy?

“Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!” Trump wrote in his endorsement. But Gaetz himself said Tuesday that “If you want to drain the swamp, you cannot put the biggest alligator in charge of the exercise.”

And Bill Barr will make a great AG. And Christopher Wray will make a great leader for the FBI. ACB and her side kick MR K will make Great USSC justices.

Hard to believe these are all accidents.

If your so anti politician, how do you expect anything to get done? Even Trump had to grudgingly admit he was a politician.

https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-representative-steve-scalise-meeting-u-s-house-deputy-whip-team/

DeSantis is a politician who gets things done. His results are well known.

“I don’t equate asking hard questions to cheap shots.”

Posting “OMG an illegal just landed on a Miami beach, why isn’t DeSantis doing something about it” is not a hard question, it’s silly and ignores his fantastic track record which you still refuse to acknowledge.

When you refuse to look at real world results and focus on vague musing about politicians wanting your vote (!), you’re not arguing in good faith.

Sadly I learned this fact when they pawned off McCain on us in 2008. Trump was a populist aberration (one that I eagerly supported in both 2016 and 2020) who was despised equally by the pubbie and dhimmicrat establishment.

His re-election bid was stolen from him in 2020 through the concerted efforts of bad actors - from both parties - and now it appears that the lesson Trump has learned is to entrust his future to people who do not have his best interests at heart.

Sad is an appropriate term. So is disappointed.

“Based on what? Transgender issues and PTA meetings.”

Nothing wrong with PTA meetings and fighting Transgender stuff. Turned Florida from a swing state to SOLID RED in one term. He does what he says he will do without fear of the mob. I like that he’s an activist who doesn’t telegraph his moves beforehand. He’s like Trump without all the unnecessary baggage and chaos. Trump has learned NOTHING as President or after. His behavior hasn’t changed a bit, except he is now making more bad decisions (like supporting McCarthy, Oz, etc.).

“You’re delusional. He hasn’t announced.”

Delusional huh? Want to put your money where your big mouth is? If DeSantis enters the Presidential primary you make a $100 donation to Free Republic. If he doesn’t I will make the same donation. Is it a bet?

“So if Trump is the Republican presidential candidate who will you vote for?”

Could just sit it out. And wait for 2028.

This is a bit disturbing. Much of Trump's appeal comes from his being a strong, brash outsider. Yet he continues to pick weak insiders. This does not bode well for what he might do in 2024.

If Trump wins the 24 presidential election, he will be a lame duck president. Will he lose some of his MAGA vision and policies as a lame duck president - as opposed to a 1st term DeSantis president?

Sadly, it's not unusual for lame duck politicians to do whatever they want as opposed to weighing their positions and votes based on what their constituents think/want.

Trump tried to save the R party and the nation. The FBI spied on him! For God’s sake what is wrong with some of you people?

I do not appreciate you lying about my comments. Its OK to disagree and debate, but its not OK to put in quotes words that I did not say. You just fabricated them to suit your emotional rant.

Its really dismaying to see a FReeper twist factual statements and engage in such falsehoods. You lie about what I said and then accuse me of not arguing in good faith. Amazing.

You should apologize to everyone on this thread for posting something I did not say (i.e., saying that I posted “OMG an illegal just landed on a Miami beach, why isn’t DeSantis doing something about it”). Do you realize how completely dishonest that is?

Stooping to such lows should be cause for some personal reflection.

Pretty bad when he could not get one vote from the opposition party from his own state.

If you don’t think Trump was controlled oppo, you’re missing the whole dynamic.

But in Trump’s mind he was trying to save the country at the same time, I have no doubt.

OMG. The Deep State is terrified of Trump. They spied on him and still do. They investigated him for nothing . Are you being stupid on purpose?

“I wonder how much the democrats had to pay to buy five republican congressmen.”

If they were going to do that, they should have paid 6 and had them vote for Jeffries.

How do you think controlled opposition is controlled?

And where did we end up re: freedom, health and prosperity by the end of his watch?
