Disparities in Advanced Math and Science Skills Begin by Kindergarten

Racial and ethnic disparities in advanced math and science skills occur far earlier in the U.S. than previously known. Our new study finds that 13% of white students and 16% of Asian students display advanced math skills by kindergarten. The contrasting percentage for both Black and Hispanic students is 4%.

These disparities then continue to occur throughout elementary school. By fifth grade, 13% of white students and 22% of Asian students display advanced math skills. About 2% of Black students and 3% of Hispanic students do so. Similar disparities occur in advanced science skills.

What explains these disparities? Factors that consistently explain these disparities include the family’s socioeconomic status – such as parental education and household income – and the student’s own understanding of math, science and reading during kindergarten.

We observed these findings in analyses of a nationally representative sample of about 11,000 U.S. elementary school students. The students were followed from the start of kindergarten until the end of fifth grade. Why it matters

Fewer than 10% of U.S. scientists and engineers are Black or Hispanic.

Racial and ethnic disparities in advanced math and science skills are constraining the country’s scientific innovation and economic competitiveness. Students who display advanced math skills early are more likely to later obtain doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering and math fields – collectively called STEM – and to become scientists or inventors.

Yet little has been known about how early racial and ethnic disparities in advanced math and science skills emerge. This information could help inform efforts to support students of color at a key time of child development.

Every black parent should send their child to either a Marva Collins school, a Montessori school, or a Catholic school - or they should homeschool them. Do not send your child to the horrible public schools.

Go back further than first grade.
Back to the womb.

It’s a genetic difference.

And everybody knows it.

“Racial and ethnic disparities in advanced math and science skills are constraining the country’s scientific innovation and economic competitiveness.”

Having all races at 4% would eliminate the disparity but would reduce the country’s competitiveness.

The fallacy is assuming all races have equal capabilities in every type of skill. That has never been proven. It is just wishful thinking.

“It’s a genetic difference.”

That only explains 98% of the difference.

Math is so racist!

“Racial and ethnic disparities in advanced math and science skills are constraining the country’s scientific innovation and economic competitiveness”

A claim that is not based in any fact.. but a statement of a social agenda.

“Fewer than 10% of U.S. scientists and engineers are Black or Hispanic.”

WHO CARES!!! Do these clowns bother to ask Black or Hispanic people if they WANT to be scientists and engineers?

Can you imagine the lamentations if there are only 10% Whites working as engineers and scientists in Nigeria?

What explains these disparities?

We all know that it must be racism, institutional racism, and White Supremacy. /s

Fewer than 10% of U.S. scientists and engineers are Black or Hispanic.

Not true! Every movie and TV show today depicts nearly all scientists, engineers, doctors, and CEOs as either Black or Hispanic.

I’ll grant that some kids show greater intellectual prowess at five.

One of my sons is a good example. At five he knew he wanted to build rockets. He has a great math mind and is now an astronautical engineer at NASA.

About age five if we were playing a board game I had to really work at it to not get demolished.

My other kids, who were obviously raised in the same environment are all smart but none has the same math skills.

I know two families who raised absolute utter genius kids (college degree by 17 level) yet their other kids are just normal smart.

All examples were home educated.

They come to kindergarten already behind in “advanced” math?

WTF is “advanced math” for a 5 year old???

Can’t count to ten, I guess.

Parents are a toddler’s teachers. Those parents [or ‘parent’ for a huge majority] must be raaaaassssscist to disadvantage their own kids like that. Either that or the democrats’ Klan is sneaking into nurseries to dumb down the babies somehow.

What an idiotic claim.

I’ve encountered very few kindergarteners with ‘advanced’ math or science skills.

People who don’t have the intellectual capacity for “advanced math” will not become successful scientists or engineers.

People who don’t have the physical capacity to throw a football, accurately, at ranges from 1 yard to tens of yards, will not become successful NFL quarterbacks.

Not easy to do when only parent at home is on welfare with a 8th grade education.

How many black parents help their kids with math and reading?

How many white and Asian parents help their kids with math and reading?

Ladies and gentlemen...I believe we know the answer.

But by golly any kid going through that silly phase of playing make believe is a perfect candidate for puberty blockers and gender reassignment “therapy”. Besides, math is racist and 💩, they tell us. Yet these geniuses can’t figure out why so many kids can’t handle math.
