* House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy failed in a third vote to secure enough votes to be elected Speaker, throwing the party into into uncertainty.

* After the first ballot resulted in votes for several Republicans, the latest round saw McCarthy’s opponents coalesce around a new contender: Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, a longtime McCarthy ally.

* It is the first time in 100 years that the majority party has failed to coalesce around a candidate for Speaker, and it was uncertain what McCarthy’s next steps would be.

If McCarthy eventually prevails, there will be retribution for the humiliation he’s endured. Count on it.

Speaker doesn’t have to be a member of Congress.

I’m aware of that. So you think he would leave Trump? Let’s not be ridiculous.

Some America First Congress critters had a pretty good first day stirring up the swampy waters of Congress Episode 118.

At least for the first day.

Good post. I am not political. Never have been, ever. It doesn’t mean I can’t understand it, but I don’t look at events, plans of action, or interactions in a political way, I look at them in a personal way.

I guess it is that I am an open book, which occasionally puts me at a disadvantage, but the positive side is, people from all sides tend to deal with me the same way.

I also have a trait that makes me a bit irritated, but has turned out to be a positive thing over the years-I have absolutely no capability at maintaining a poker face.

My face absolutely and transparently shows my every emotion from anger, puzzlement, and irritation, to joy and happiness.

You can imagine what this does in married life. But in work, it is kind of interesting, and I only came to realize this fully in the last couple of years, when my boss told me one day he wanted me to turn on my camera for a contentious video conference.

Almost everyone always turns theirs off, and I am the only one who almost always has it on...turns out he uses me to convey emotion in those kinds of situations! My brain is so un-political (even when it damn well should be) that I am a disadvantage when viewing political events.

It is in this way that I so appreciated your post. My brain simply does not think in political terms. I grasp it when it is explained to me, and it is always a bit of a revelation. But my mind simply does not go there on its own and reason out political aspects. If it does, it like a blind man finding a nut.

And I appreciated your description of Trump.

Do you really think that Kevin McCarthy is the man to bring this nation out of its troubles? No I think he’s just the man who keeps the nation in it’s troubles keep the status quo, business as usual

It brought out the sellouts in the GOP, Conservative Inc. and the GOP establishment ball sack lickers on FR.

I have no illusions, the GOP house will do nothing based on past behavior. But giving the America hating trash that is the GOP establishment the finger and watching them actually fight conservatives is quite satisfying.

Note the GOPE will bend over and voluntarily offer themselves to the communist Democrats EVERY TIME. But anytime the conservative base makes a demand of them watch them fight like cornered rats.

Yeah, it’s a “crisis” (because the Democrat media says so, that’s why) because a backstapping anti-conservative squish can, for now, only get 90% of the votes he needs to become GOP Speaker despite all of his threats and the threats being echoed by his flying monkeys.

Why oh why is the GOP allowing a handful of radicals to deny Lord McCarthy his rightful place on the throne???

Why oh why can’t we be more like the Democrats, who are always so unified??? They never pander to the radical elements of their party, and always select reasonable, common-sense moderates like Schumer, Pelosi, Nadler and now this racist muzzie terrorist from Brooklyn to lead their party.

Oh wait.

What all of this drama mainly tells us is that the vast majority of elected Republicans are gutless pussies, terrified that eeeeevil conservatives might have even the smallest amount of influence in the GOP caucus, which might jeopardize all those important cocktail party friendships the GOP wimps have worked so hard to cultivate among Democrats.

No, I do not. Just commented on the sorry state of the nation. Oh man, is every one wound up. I am thinking about bugging out and waiting until I hear the call to muster. I have NEVER seen it this bad. A whole lot of talk and NO action.

Six weeks from now, hardly anyone will remember. Most Americans went back to their work/school today without caring what happened. Nothing is going to happen for the next two years anyway…this stuff is critical to political junkies, and that’s about it.

You have that right.

Ugh. I do feel like a fish out of water about it all, sometimes.

The concept of thinking one thing but having out of necessity to say another is repellent to me, but...we all have to do it in various ways at various times, I guess.
