Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has fallen short during the first ballot vote for speaker, forcing additional rounds of balloting until one candidate is able to secure a majority in the House of Representatives. No candidate running for speaker has lost a first-round vote in a century. At the end of the first ballot, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), leader of the Democratic caucus, received 212 votes, while McCarthy received 203.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) received 10, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) received six, Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) received one, former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) received one, and Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) received one.
Here are the Republican members of the House who did not support McCarthy’s bid for speaker of the House.

Ahead of the vote, McCarthy acknowledged the defectors and the possibility he could lose on the first ballot, saying the process will go on until he has enough support to win.
"If what's holding up today is simply about a few members who want something they haven't earned, we can't give in to that. We have to be strong," McCarthy said as he walked into the House chamber Tuesday afternoon.
Kevin McCarthy News Speaker Speaker of the House Washington D.C.
And Eric Cantor...
OF course The mediaRATS are loving this …they carry the evil swampRAT waters…HELLO!
I wonder if my Congressional District is one of those districts that McCarthy thinks hasn't "earned" equal representation. I guess some districts are more equal than others.
The Biggs supporters are now voting for Jordan. On the third vote they will vote for McCarthy. McCarthy wins.
How about for starters that little Kevin disengage his lips from Paul Ryan’s ass?? Kissing ass does not earn one the “right” to be speaker. Kevin you are a fool.
Only one choice with the Guts and Fortitude...
Marjorie Taylor Green.
I think this report is regarding Markwayne Mullin from Oklahoma is wrong. There is no Representative named Josh Brecheen from Oklahoma.
McCarthy is a pussy!
Maybe MTG could be the “compromise” since she has been one of McCarthy’s most vocal supporters and she has been one of the staunchest MAGA representatives in the House. That would be great.
McCarthy is a bottom-feeder, just like Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor, with whom he is often compared. That should tell us something.
Are you saying Bob Good is a dummie? I’ll have him pay you a visit! I’m sure he’ll change your mind!;-)
It’s the union seniority argument applied to politics.
Or am I missing something here?
We could conceivably end up with Jeffries as Speaker…
The second vote is where it will really get interesting.
Will McCarthy be able to woo any of the 19 or will more defect?
The trend will mean more than the actual numbers.
One month later the vote is still the same - McCarthy still not speaker, so by popular acclaim and since the GOP cannot get its act together, Nancy is reelected Speaker.
Thus ends the GOP once and for all.
Notice McCarthy did not say voting would continue until he has enough REPUBLICAN votes.
McCarthy is a bitterly ambitious man who will stop at nothing to get the Speakership
Anyone who doubts that McCarthy has been courting Democrat votes as a fallback if Republicans don't fall in line are too stupid to breath.
