Myocardial Contusion can cause arrhythmia which can easily be fatal.
You don’t see it in football, and to my knowledge there has never been an on-field death from it. This is probably so because the heart is underneath most shoulder pad gear.
In the history of the NFL only 1 cardiac death reported on field, and it was in 1971. This was well before the modern medicine and testing these athletes endure.
Personally, watching the replay, this was an ordinary impact. The player immediately got up and seemed unaffected for a few seconds, then dropped. I don’t think this was an impact related event. Easily it could be an un-diagnosed cardiac conduction system problem, or possibly a rare structural event. However, since there has been a LARGE number of young athletes that have suddenly died recently, it seems more likely to be related to those issues.
The increase in sudden death in highly vaccinated nations is probably real and seems to be poorly understood. I don’t know if it related to what happened here, or if it was a pre-existing risk the player and team didn’t know about. I don’t think it was related to the impact.
Possible. I was only an RN. Can only see it was a minor hit. Either the guy has some undiagnosed heart issues or you start looking for other factors. I’ll leave it to the pros.
It is perplexing and concerning so many athletes( and others) are dropping dead.
Is there a list of all the athletes who have suffered or died in play in the last two years??
