Right-wing anti-vaxxers pushed a debunked conspiracy blaming COVID shots after NFL player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field on Monday.
Hamlin, a 24-year-old safety for the Buffalo Bills, suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field after a scary hit to his chest during the Monday Night Football matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Players surrounded Hamlin as he received CPR for about nine minutes before being taken off the field in an ambulance. The game was postponed and Hamlin was taken to a local hospital.
"Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in the Buffalo Bills' game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition," the Bills said in a statement early Tuesday.
The scary moment led to an outpouring of support and prayers for the young second-year player and an online toy drive fundraiser launched by Hamlin quickly raised more than $3 million in donations in the hours after his collapse. But some right-wing anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists used the incident to stoke a widely debunked claim that the COVID vaccine is causing young, healthy athletes to suddenly collapse.

But it can’t be a coincidence that he collapsed right after the hit when he stood up
Unless they discover he has some kind of freaky early corner disease I would assume it triggers an arrhythmia but probably ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation
Soccer players literally have dropped without being hit.
But I think it was the timing of the hit more than the severity of the hit, and it does seem the chest area took most of the force from the hit.
If he is his doctor he released personal medical info without permission.

It was not too long ago that no matter what anyone died of it was covid.
If he got the shot a week ago it certainly can’t be ruled out without some serious diagnostics that I can guarantee we aren’t going to see performed. Especially if he dies.
I don’t know what caused this heart attack, but I do know if they are so damn concerned about right-wing anti-vaxx conspiracy theories, they can do the necessary testing and show those conspiracy theories to be just that. But they won’t. Because they don’t know either and they don’t want to take a chance. We are that far down the rabbit hole.
Maybe imaging? But that would likely show non specific and not easily enumerated clots or areas thereof.
In the lab, we cannot detect clots that are not compromised of traditional clotting pathway components… after decades in the lab, this I know. That lack of ability likely means our clot busters which work in those same pathways will not work in this case…. That’s a logical, but educated guess on my part… would defer to pharmacy for solutions to immune complexes. Those would be immunologic removal via monoclonal antibody therapy… maybe.
Was watching the Netherlands match when a player dropped. Did not die but I think he had to give up playing.
If the left wants to own responsibility for the Covid vaccine, that’s great for the political right.

When we first watched it live, we didn’t catch how the hit was until we replayed it a few times. That’s when we realized it was really close to the heart and sternum. It made us remember the baseball and hockey injuries we’ve seen in the past. For this, I think it was the timing of the hit to the chest. Whether a vax also came into play, I have no way of knowing or guessing. Everything is really just speculation.

While Damar Hamlin’s health is and should be first and foremost in people’s views on this, the vax question is a legitimate one.
People coming out and making assumptions before the poor guy was even out of the stadium makes for some ugly optics, but it *is* a legitimate concern.

Im supposed to believe that a 24 year old healthy young man who has probably been tackled 1000 times in his career and nothing ever happened but last night he just so happened to be hit at just the “Right” time to go into cardiac arrest..NO WAY..it was a simple tackle, nothing more, Ive seen way worse in football, Ive seen way worse in pro wrestling and this has never happened before..but they refuse to acknowledge that there is a chance this is somehow related to the vaccine, at least if they were to say that there are certain members of the population that this can happen to Ok at least admit it so we can have a conversation about it but NO, just to flat out say “Nothing to see here moving on” I dont think so! It is NOT possible he had a pre existing condition these NFL teams are very good at checking for any health issues before they draft a player they would have known
