Even Russia admitted that 63 Russian soldiers were killed in that Ukrainian attack, THAT tells you something ! Kremlin can’t even hide that attack anymore, the only thing they can do is as usual to minimize the number of dead - Russia’s desperate attempt to PR damage control at full display... once again...

I’m sympathize with Ukraine and believe that helping them defend themselves is money well spent. However, this 600 casualty number should be taken with a very large grain of salt.
It is clear the Ukrainian rocket/missile set of a chain reaction of poorly stored Russian munitions. A lot of Russian dead, but 600? That is either garbage or the luckiest shot of the war.
What did you expect after they dropped 50 and fired for effect?
Do I understand correctly that the loss was not on the battlefield but because the building they were using as a barracks was hit by missiles??
Russian mil-bloggers estimate about 400 dead and ~300 wounded. It looks like mobilized personnel was temporarily housed in the single building - formerly sort of community college in the Donetsk suburb. That entire building was reduced to rubble and for some time it will be hard to say just how many dead actually - many bodies are under the concrete.
Russian DoD said that about 70 dead and about 100 wounded, but every blogger - including Igor Girkin, Russian FSB agent who commanded Crimea takeover in 2014 - treats it as a number as low as DoD can expect to get away with.
If true, the Russians lost almost two battalions worth of personnel with one shot. Someone’s head will roll for this. Probably literally, and it might even be the actual person responsible for once.
Something goes this badly wrong and they will have to take action. For the dead’s sake I hope it is not a sacrificial lamb.

Update on Russian military operations in Ukraine for January 2, 2023:
- Fighting continues around Bakhmut and across the wider Donbass region;
- Russian missile and drone strikes continue for several days now;
- Ukrainian sources claim “all” drones were downed but damage to infrastructure proves otherwise;
- Ukraine claims to have hit Russian troops with a HIMARS rocket attack;
- The attack is only in the news because it happens so infrequently;
- Russia carries out similar attacks nearly daily with its much larger number of guided-rocket launchers and ballistic missile systems;
- NATO admits Russia can fight on long-term and that Ukraine requires long-term support;
- EU begins training 1,100 Ukrainians for 2 months and plans to train up to 15,000 over the next 2+ years;
- 200-300 Ukrainian perish in fighting daily at a minimum with fighting around Bakhmut raising deaths and injuries to around 1,000 daily;
- Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterates that the West is using Ukraine as a proxy to harm Russia, a fact stated in US policy documents like RAND's 2019 "Extending Russia" paper;
so Russia should be wrapping this up soon then

Putin had to launch the draft with hundreds of thousands of extra replacement soldiers! They are poorly trained, under-equipped and used as cannon-fodder by the Kremlin.

That building was obliterated because there was a huge Russian weapon storage right next to it. It was hit spot on and obviously caused massive secondary explosions. The whole place was leveled because of that.
