In what year will the human population grow too large for the Earth to sustain? The answer is about 1970, according to research by the World Wildlife Fund.
In 1970, the planet's 3 and a half billion people were sustainable. But on this New Year's Day, the population is 8 billion. Today, wild plants and animals are running out of places to live. The scientists you're about to meet say the Earth is suffering a crisis of mass extinction on a scale unseen since the dinosaurs.
We're going to show you a possible solution, but first, have a look at how humanity is already suffering from the vanishing wild.

just got back from a cross-country plane trip. I looked out the window and 95% or more is just forest or empty land until you get near a city.
Just in, a video with Hayward and Ehrlich, worth the time.

Actually it’s natural selection.🤔
No problem, the Chinese that today are 1300M will be reduced to 600 - 700 M in 2050 due to their age distribution.
But the decline will probably be faster https://www.reuters.com/world/china/more-chinese-women-delay-or-give-up-having-babies-after-zero-covid-ordeal-2022-08-08/
Dang wrestlers.🤪
Blah, blah, blah.
Give us money to “study it.” (”Study it” = write proposals for you to give us even more money.)
So if it’s white all around and there’s snow on the ground just push your EV to make the wheels go round.
Exactly. They’ve been spreading this catastrophism for decades now. It was doggerel then just as it is now.
I was fortunate to have a non-idiot professor in college when I took environmental science. He always told us global warming/hole in ozone/deforestation/species extinction was nonsense. I still can hear him saying to the class that “for every species that goes extinct, three new ones replace them.
Bless your heart.
I don’t have a number, and I won’t hazard a guess. I didn’t make the initial claim. We should be focused on getting off the planet, not quibbling over pronouns.
Where are those ‘people’ from?
We have all this WTAER on the planet, just begging to be populated!
I’d say that we are running out of places for these scientists to live.
Get rid of them!
Pfft!
Wild animals are cute, but what good are they?
Deer routinely try to kill people by playing in the roadway, Bears - well, I don’t have to tell you.
Canada geese - wild and GAINING places in our towns!
Mass extinction events resulted in 75-95% of all species disappearing. I don’t think we’re even close to that, even including all the animals that died off after the last ice age ended.
That said, I have a hard time seeing 7 billion people living like I do without causing huge environmental problems.

bingo
I’ve always wondered about BIOMASS.
Where does it come from?
