HILLSDALE COUNTY, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) – Troopers in Michigan pooled their own money to buy a family Christmas presents after they learned the father, whom they arrested, did not buy any gifts for his children.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers were sent to the home on Christmas Day and arrested the father for domestic violence and felonious assault.

While they were there, the troopers learned that the father had not given his four children any Christmas presents. After leaving the home, troopers decided to pool together their own money to buy and wrap gifts for the kids.

The troopers returned to the home the next day to deliver the presents. State police said the mother and children were “extremely thankful.”

"Thank you troopers for going above and beyond to serve your community,” Michigan State Police said in a tweet.

Officials did not give further details on the man’s arrest.

I see stuff like this all the time in Michigan news. This one almost made me cry. Police take so many negative hits in the press....I think I will begin posting stories of the great things they do.

In 1964 I was a kid living in Phoenix,AZ. I was the youngest of four brothers. My old man was a hard drinker before and after my mother died. He would not come home for days at a time. He would spend his entire paycheck in the bar and left us with an empty fridge and cupboards. I guess the neighbors took notice and called the local police. A Phoenix motorcycle cop showed up at our door, came in,looked around and looked at us. He asked where our father was,we told him we didnt know. The cop told us to stay put and left. About 20 minutes later he showed up with a grocery bag of bologna, cheese, bread, and soda pop. He had bought the food with his own money. After not eating for about three days that was some good chow!

This is a rarity. You know these same cops will vigorously enforce any gun confiscation laws. The police ARE NOT on our side.

Idk. I once was helping a very senior guy receiving state care...I did emergency calls occasionally.

He had shot a buck in his backyard and a neighbor had called the police.

He had a nice collection of rifles, shotguns.

State troopers came out and talked with him for awhile.
Then they stood, congratulated him on the buck, and left.

People are pretty generous when they see others in need. Especially when it involves children. Where I previously worked, we had what we called the “Angel Fund” that people could donate to when they wanted. Then, if someone found that a co-worker had an unexpected financial problem, they would let the Angel Fund Committee know, and an anonymous donation would suddenly appear on that person’s desk with a nice card wishing them the best and letting them know their co-workers were thinking of them. That fund made a difference in so many people’s lives when things such as unexpected car repairs, medical expense, or a faulty heating/AC unit hit them in the pocket book.

THIS is how Society is supposed to work. Not MANDATED CHARITY at the expense of others.

People WILL take care of one another if left to their own devices.

But, nope. Mother Government has to FORCE others to care for slackers via confiscatory taxes.

God bless that cop, and God bless you for surviving. Alcoholism is a terrible disease, and only the person suffering from it can conquer it. Others must pick up the pieces when they don’t or can’t. Wishing you a wonderful New Year.

That might be true. But we all would rather be with him instead of the foster homes we were in. The old man was also the smartest guy I ever knew. Not because he was my Pop but he was. All my aunts and uncles would say that too.

I don’t care what his IQ was he didn’t take care of his children. That makes him a louse in my eyes

What about that cop in Wisconsin who arrested the mom who was taking her kid on a playdate because of the pandemic?

That’s all well and good, but should the police really be going around playing Santa Claus? They’re not all things to all people, and they shouldn’t be acting as surrogate Santas for anyone’s kids because if they’re going to extend their reach that far for one or two, they should plan on gifting every other “forgotten” kid in town.
