After Goldberg said the Holocaust "wasn't originally" about race in a new interview published Saturday, Jewish leaders condemned the remarks as historically inaccurate and offensive.
Whoopi Goldberg is facing a fresh round of backlash following her latest historically inaccurate statement about the Holocaust, which she claimed "wasn't originally" about race in an interview with the U.K. newspaper The Sunday Times.
The controversy marks the second time this year that Goldberg, 67, has come under fire for what Jewish leaders and Holocaust experts say are inaccurate and offensive comments about the Nazi-sponsored mass murder of six million European Jews between 1933 and 1945.
Goldberg made the latest remarks in an interview published Saturday, after the reporter said that "Nazis saw Jews as a race," referencing Goldberg's earlier comments from January, in which she claimed the Holocaust was "not about race."
“Yes, but that’s the killer, isn’t it?” Goldberg told The Sunday Times reporter. “The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying?”
“It wasn’t originally [about race],” Goldberg continued. “Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision.”
When the reporter told Goldberg that "the Nazis measured the heads and noses of Jews to 'prove' they were a distinct race," Goldberg replied: “They did that to Black people too. But it doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them. That was the point I was making. But you would have thought that I’d taken a big old stinky dump on the table, butt naked.”
Backlash to and correction of the comments — which come amid rising antisemitism in the U.S. — were swift.
Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum on Monday tweeted a passage from a letter that Adolf Hitler wrote in 1919 — fourteen years before being appointed chancellor of Germany and opening the first concentration camp — stating, "Jews are definitely a race" and calling Jewish people an "alien race, unable and unwilling to sacrifice its racial distinctiveness."
"This text is one of the first major statements made by Hitler with regard to the Jewish question," read the Auschwitz Memorial's tweet accompanying the excerpt.
While the Auschwitz Memorial's tweet did not mention Goldberg by name, several other Jewish leaders used the tweet to call out the inaccuracy of Goldberg's comments.
David Harris, former president of the American Jewish Committee, an advocacy organization, retweeted the Hitler passage and addressed Goldberg, writing: "Stop claiming the Holocaust wasn’t about race. It was all about race."
A Holocaust survivor, Lucy Lipiner, condemned Goldberg's comments in a tweet, writing that she "continues to use the Holocaust as her punching bag." "We told her that her comments harm us and she simply doesn't care," Lipiner wrote, referencing Goldberg's comments on "The View" in January.
Those earlier comments led ABC News to suspend Goldberg for two weeks, with president Kim Godwin calling the comments “wrong and hurtful.” Goldberg apologized for those comments within hours.
Goldberg's representative and a spokesperson for "The View" did not immediately return requests for comment on Monday afternoon.
Rep. Ritchie Torres, a Democrat from New York, wrote in a tweet linking to a news story about Goldberg's most recent comments: "Antisemitism is anti-Jewish racism. Period. Claiming the Holocaust had nothing to do with racism is historical revisionism at its worst."
Goldberg gave the interview to The Sunday Times following her appearance in “Till” — the recent film about the brutal abduction and killing of 14-year-old Emmett Till by two white men — in which she portrays Emmett’s grandmother, Alma Carthan. Goldberg was also a producer of the film.
I believe we have to start defining terms more accurately. Are Jews a race? Or are they an ethnic group? Or a religious grouping? It used to be that we recognized 3 “races”, but now the term is being used more loosely. I do believe that some Nazis regarded Jews as sub-human, which would qualify as racism if it was understood that Jews did not belong to the human race. But that would certainly be a new way to define racism. I don’t think it is useful to try and catalogue every instance of inhumanity as “racist”. It does a disservice to those genuinely victimized by racism.
Entertainers are weirder than ever recently.
I will say though, why can’t folks on our side ever double-down like Whoopi does.
She is protected by the Democrat establishment. She can say ANTHING and get away with it.
Maybe it’s time for this woman to acknowledge her cultural misappropriation of her current last name — Goldberg — and revert to her birth name:

“Tribes” would probably be the suitable terminology. The genome project didn’t mention any particular race or ethnicity.
Mainly when a Hispanic commits a crime, he is white.
When he does something good, even if white, he’s Hispanic.
One thing for certain. If she gets fired the intellectual level of the show will not decline, but the volume of the show will dramatically decline.
I presume Whoopi Goldberg will admit that Nazis persecuted Jews and attempted to exterminate them in what is now called the “Holocaust”.
Questions for Whoopi: What was the Nazi’s motive for doing that?
Theology is out, since they murdered people who were not practicing Jews, but had even one Jewish parent or grandparent. Obsessed with their own racial purity and genetics is a defining aspect of Nazism. The “Nation” in National Socialism is the “Aryan” German “volk”. Everyone else in the German “living space” was a racial outsider; Jews who had lived in Germany for generations, served in the German military and givernment, etc., found themselves defined as non-Germans by the Nazis. Racism, and defining groups by race so they can be excluded, or used, or exterminated as a race, is a core principle of Nazism.
Whatever network allows Whoopi to spread her ignorance should be ashamed.
Not really.
Some people in the US saw three races (Caucasian, Mongoloid and Negroid) for a short period of time, but if you asked them what race the American Indian, the Indian Indian or Australian Aborigine or South Pacific Native was they started to squirm a bit.
Most of the old world was far more practical when it came to race, if they were not of your tribe they were of another race. So the Han saw the Yao as a different race, the English saw the Scots as a different race, the French saw the Basque as a different race, the Bantu saw the Twa as a different race, the Bengali saw the Tamil as a different race and so on.
Jews are a race, (a group of people related by blood who have distinct DNA markers) but also a religion. Which is where there is some confusion.

She is a liberal black woman, therefore an expert in all things race related. Anything she says will be treated as the truth and correct by the press.
This in turn will cause anyone disagrees with her will be branded as the fringe right wing nut job spreading disinformation and this should be banished.

Which made it a bit difficult to integrate the Negro and Mongolian races into the mix. Now the capital of Tanzania is Dar Es Salaam - it looks like the Swahili word for peace is similar to the Hebrew and Arabic words, which could make them Semites....Hmm....
American Indians - another race, or a subdivision of one of the others?
Australian Aborigines - I’ve seen them lumped in with Caucasians but they could be separate too.
Legend has it that the Lost Tribe of Israel ended up being the original inhabitants of Ireland.
Thus all the Irish are Jews.
I don’t particularly care what Whoopi said, I’m more interested in it from a political perspective. Blacks and Jews both vote heavily Dem, so if they become at odds, it won’t be good for the Dems. Most blacks condemned Kanye when he went in on that Hitler stuff, but they feel both Kyrie and Whoopi were punished for no good reason. If they go after her again, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns black/Jewish relations sour.
