SHANGHAI/GUANGZHOU -- Subway ridership is declining in China as the relaxation of its zero-COVID policy drives up infections, dropping roughly 40% in 10 major cities in the two weeks since the easing began.
Passengers in these cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, totaled 20.26 million based on Wednesday's 7-day moving average -- down 36% from Dec. 7, when the figure came to 31.66 million.
Users increased in the first week but began to decline on Dec. 15.
The drop was particularly pronounced in Shanghai, where locals rely heavily on the subway, with ridership falling 45% as of Wednesday from two weeks earlier.
In addition to rising COVID-19 infections, the spread of telecommuting and online learning appears to have contributed to the decrease. As surging cases cause worker shortages and cut customer traffic, some stores are reducing hours or temporarily shutting down.

The exact same thing is spreading throughout the West, except most of us here are fed up with testing tor Covid, so we are back to calling it “catching a cold”.
All China has to do is stop testing, and their Covid problem will be over.
If mankind can extract anything positive from these years of Covid19 madness, I would hope it could serve as more irrefutable proof of how much wiser free individuals are than are obedient masses blindly following government mandates.
I’ve had a cold for a few weeks. People keep asking me if I’ve been tested for COVID. My only symptom is an annoying cough. That’s a cold. But — but — but have you been tested for COVID??? No. Why would I? What would be the point?
Among the points would be that some Chinese businesses and related concerns are making a lot of money with "tests."
