A drone believed to be Ukrainian penetrated hundreds of kilometers through Russian airspace, causing a deadly explosion at the main base for Moscow's strategic bombers in the latest attack to expose gaps in its air defences.
Moscow said it had shot the drone down causing it to crash at the Engels air base, where three service members were killed. Under its usual policy on incidents inside Russia, Ukraine did not comment.
The base, the main airfield for the bombers that Kyiv says Moscow has used in recent months to attack Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, is hundreds of miles from the Ukrainian frontier. The same planes are also designed to launch nuclear-capable missiles as part of Russia's long-term strategic deterrent.

russia/putin invaded Ukraine
and they are getting their butts kicked
May it only get worse for putin/russia
Once again, the silly, simplistic, reductionist argument which ignores all historical facts and related NATO/US actions.
Why did Kennedy blockade Cuba in 1962? Cuba never did ANYTHING to the USA! Its a small, independent, innocent country and its arms purchases from the Soviet Union were purely defensive!
See how this idiotic game is played?
“Update: RU telegram channels have admitted to 17 dead, 50 wounded and 5 Russian strategic bombers and other aircraft heavily damaged in Ukraine’s 2nd attack on the base.”
WOW. A direct hit on a Russian MILITARY target !
Another win for the Ukrainian freedom fighting forces.
The Russian girlymen will only be capable of hitting back on CIVILIAN electrical infrastructures in Ukraine, as usual.
They are defeating NATO with conventional weapons right now. Since April Russia has been fighting a proxy war with NATO. NATO trained troops, equipment, intelligence.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, of course, but Col. MacGregor, Scott Ritter and many other analysts believe WE would be defeated in a land based war with Russia. I find their detailed analysis persuasive, unfortunately.
Hopefully we will never have the opportunity to see who is right.
Well... The USA didn’t INVADE Cuba... right ?
Russia has invaded a sovereign nation which borders are internationnaly recognized TODAY. I don’t care happened in history when Jesus Christ was alive,
What counts is international rules of TODAY. They are clear and written in stone.
Since you rely on so called “history” so much... :
According to you, the native Americans in The USA would be in their full right to abolish it and make it native American again ? Right ?
Google "Bay of Pigs"
Their problem was unrestricted immigration, and lack of border control. Sound familiar?
I’ve learned not to try to reason with potatoes.
Who are you calling “you people?”
Agree with your analysis. Another element I would add is Russia military doctrine and its national psyche is able to withstand massive casualties. They associate war with massive loss of soldiers and the ‘wave’ dynamic, albeit deeply flawed, has been part of their military ethos for a long time. To the contrary, the West has a ‘glass jaw’ in that it cannot withstand losses. Post WW2, our appetite for casualties is very low and Vietnam really put the lid on that as far as the USA is concerned.
I do think Russia would be willing, by the point of the gun, to commit millions of its citizens to a meat grinder conventional war with NATO. Unless we are witnessing some sort of Russian ‘rope a dope’ (which I do not believe) it must also be said that it appears Russia’s ability to train and outfit a million(s) of soldiers is extremely limited. It’s also unknown if the Russian psyche is the same or has changed in regard to casualties, but we cannot gamble that it has changed. I do not think a direct-action war betwixt Russia and NATO would stay conventional for long at all, days or weeks at best.
Unknowns are what North Korea, Iran, Israel, India, China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan would do in such an event. Would they use the opportunity settle some of their own beefs, would they use the opportunity to attempt to directly bring down the American hegemony? Not to mention the unstable environment here at home.. It’s all unknown, even by the pencil necks in the DoD who war-game this all day.
The risks far outweigh the reward. Kind of like not getting into a fight with a road rager, especially when you’re armed!
The only to win this one is not to play.
I realize some of my statements may be contradictory, just having a free flow of thought there.
You and I are evidently for STRONG borders - we agree on that.
Actually it shouldn’t be “strong”, it has to be ABSOLUTE.
If WE in pure logic wish for strong borders for America, we must wish the same for our allies borders. There is nothing wrong about Ukrainians protecting their own BORDERS, their families lives and their country.
What we want for America, Ukrainians want the same for Ukraine.
It’s fair game.
A proxy war is another way of saying military failure.
The CIA has been over there since before 2014.
BTW..although The Ukraine has been supplied with conventional weapons from NATO countries, they have not been supplied with the most advanced weapons because they can not be trained in time to use them.
Most of the weapons are old conventional and former Soviet Block weapons. They finally are supposed to have sent in a couple older Leopard tanks which have the more advanced fire directives. Will be interesting how fast the stupid Ukrainians manage to get those destroyed.
There are only two countries in the world that could fight a more conventional war and maybe win it, and then control the territory they gain.
Red China and India.
Your opinion of the glass jaw is spot on. Am waiting for bodies of Americans to start showing up and see what the reaction will be within this nation to that.
Ronald Reagan said it best...In a nuclear war, there are no winners.
Outside of that. I expect that Russia will start using its fuel air munitions more now. They have been using the smaller ones, but I expect them to start using the larger ones. Those suck the guts out of the victims, blow blood vessels in the head, rupture lungs EVEN if the victims are under cover.
Those people are a mean bunch. Both sides.
<< Google “Bay of Pigs” >>
Wrong.
The “bay of pigs” wasn’t a military operation organized by Americas army.
It was Cuban men from mostly Miami who were willing to take back their country from the communsits. Unfortunately it didn’t work out, thus there was no invasion.
Russia on the other hand, has ANNEXED 4 entire regions in the DONBAS in Ukraine... with the Russian ARMY. It’s completely and spectacularly different !
.
Yeah ukie drone did hit the airfield by its body)))..
I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest comment yet.
...Cuban-dissident army completely independently organizes and supplies itself in Florida during the cold war with no help or recognition from US Government. LOLOLOL
A proxy war is another way of saying “I want to use and exploit some other poor suckers rather than risk my own troops.” We do it a lot.
While Ukraine used Soviet era tanks, they have been heavily supplied with stingers, javelins, M777 howitzers, HIMARS, etc. (not to mention missiles that took down the Moskva)...all made in the U.S., though HIMARS are operated or supervised by U.S. “contractors.” BTW, I hear FIGHTING Americans in Telegram videos all the time. Hard for an American to miss an American accent...they don’t even sound Canadian to us like they do much of the rest of the world..:-)
Ukraine has blown through an enormous full fledged repeatedly refurnished arsenal and as General Z made clear they will require an ENTIRE additional arsenal to even have a “fighting chance” to take back more territory.
But, what I consider the most significant metric for analysis is that Russia is killing 10 times more Ukrainians than Ukraine is killing Russians.
Resident https://t.me/s/rezident_ua/
Military registration and enlistment offices across the country have stepped up the distribution of subpoenas, a new wave of mobilization should not only close the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the eastern front, but also increase the number of the Ukrainian army by 15-20% by February 2023.
I believe this is their 9th mobilization. MacGregor says they are now mobilizing 14, 15, 16 yr. old boys and the elderly.
Your sources told you “”⚡️❗️ Air defense systems shot down a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle at low altitude while approaching the military airfield “Engels” in the Saratov region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
Three Russian soldiers were fatally injured due to falling debris.
Aviation equipment at the airfield was not damaged.””
Are you still relying on those sources and using them for the information that you post on FR?
Of course there was some indirect symbolic support for those Cuban dissidents by the US Government. But there’s was ZERO américain troops. Zero American Army. There was ZERO US invasion of Cuba. ZERO Annexations of cuban regions.
Russia vs Ukraine is a TOTALLY different situation. Its unimaginable to even attempt in trying to compare those two situations.
Russia has OFFICIALLY invaded Ukraine with its RUSSIAN ARMY, is bombarding Ukraine openly with an average of 50.000 shells every single day.
The war has been going on for more than 10 months now. One hundred thousand dead, injured and captured Russian soldiers and drunk Wagner convicts wiped off the map! Entire Ukrainian town and villages leveled to the ground by the Kremlin!
You compare ALL that with the comical joke of the “Bay of Pigs” that went on for barely 2 days? Which resulted with ZERO invasion, ZERO American Annexations of parts of Cuba.
Your sense of humor is alive and kicking my friend.
