American jobseekers' salary expectations have hit a record high, a new poll reveals.
The New York Federal Reserve Bank found the lowest average annual pay workers were willing to accept from a new employer was $73,667 in November. That number is known as a 'reservation wage.'...
...The increase in salary expectations was most pronounced among job hunters under the age of 45, the bank added. ...
...Meanwhile, the expectation of working past the age of 62 dropped to 48.8 percent, on average, from 50.1 percent in July - the lowest figure recorded since 2014....

“and there’s no increases in sight. I am so screwed.”
Not exactly.
So, a guy on our team is from a small sub-contractor, w/o any onsite management. He gets the lowest pay but has a workaround for it. He calls out at least one day a week. Yet at end of year it’s “I HAVE to take leave, I’m maxed out on Leave and I’m at Use or Lose.” I used to get angry at that but then I thought about it and decided he’s functionally working at a higher pay rate by calling out so much. He’s actually raising the bar imo.
Work is beneath them? Not enough Americans are starving yet. That’s all changing, as the WEF agenda continues apace.
Great attitude.
You deserve the best and I suspect you will get it.
What do you expect, when a gallon of milk costs $6?
How does he call out without using PTO?
I’ve been at 6 figures for a while, but 6 figures ain’t what it used to be.
So essentially they had a 4 unit apartment building perhaps with shared facilities.
Or a complex boarding house.
Many people did similar things.
Exactly- and they believe they “deserve” $75,000 + a year with a $500 work ethic and $250 skill set.
Problem with cheaper housing these days means its not in a safe neighborhood.
Helloooooo? Having a lower-wage job, even if you need some assistance, is better than having all your sustenance be from government printy-money.
everybody gets a trophy .... the Oprah generation
I haven’t been there since it is off the beaten path, but it is a mid Victorian home built in 1896. It is still standing and is kept up by the town’s historical society.

My wife and I started a gourmet mushroom farm about 10 years ago after I sold my engineering business. The farm has grown into the largest in the state now, but it’s taken a great deal of hard work and enduring a lot of crop failures until we taught ourselves how to grow. We get approached at least a dozen times a month by twenty and thirty-somethings who want us to teach them mushroom cultivation for free. It took us almost 3 years to learn to produce consistent crops. Then, we had to figure out how and where to sell them. I’ve had several of these wannabe’s get indignant with me, claiming when I refused to teach them my business that I spent years developing and untold thousands of dollars because I was “all about profit”. Yep, you got it! Capitalism, baby!
Demand a raise and freshen up your resume.
Well.....some people are just going to have to modify their expectations.
Although it isn’t stating ‘starting’ wage but the ‘average’. Things cost a heck of a lot more than 20 years ago. This really doesn’t shock me.
This is BS. Their average TWOT is some jerk living in a blue metro.
$74K out most anywhere is riches beyond belief — unless you made the wiser decision and went the talented trade route like plumbing, electrician, etc.
