Six-Figure Blue-State Safety Nets Are Driving Americans Out of the Work Force, Study Finds
National Review via Yahoo ^ | December 21, 2022 | Caroline Downey

The value of welfare and government-provided health insurance for some U.S. households in certain blue states exceeds six figures, exacerbating the labor shortage that has plagued the U.S. economy in the wake of the Covid pandemic, according to a newly released study entitled “Paying Americans Not to Work.”

In 24 states, unemployment benefits and Obamacare subsidies for a family of four with two unemployed parents is equivalent to — and in some cases, exceeds — the national median household income, according to a recent study conducted by the economists Casey Mulligan, Erwin Antoni, and Stephen Moore on behalf of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, a non-profit that promotes free-market economic policy. The national median household income was $78,813 in 2022.

In 14 states, a family of four in which both adults are unemployed can receive unemployment insurance and Affordable Care Act subsidies equivalent to a job that pays $80,000 in combined salary and health benefits. Washington, New Jersey, and Massachusetts provide safety-net programs that provide the equivalent of over $100,000 in annualized cash and benefits for a family of four, the economists found.

Workers in some states can receive more benefits from remaining unemployed than their blue-collar counterparts who are working, the study showed. In roughly half the states today, an unemployed couple receiving unemployment and health-insurance subsidies can earn more than a fire fighter, a construction worker, a retail clerk, or a machinist working 40 hours a week. In certain states, couples with a combined income of more than $400,000 are eligible for taxpayer-subsidized healthcare.

Let the party continue.
Run it ‘til it blows.
Someday we’ll run out of fake money.

Do any of these people riding the gravy train actually feel good at the end of the day?

I remember occasionally sitting in front of the TV all day on a day off from work, and I didn’t feel good after all that. I felt lackadaisical, bored, tired and not all there.

-
In 24 states, nearly half the country,
people have more money staying home than from working.

We are doomed.

Twenty plus years ago I remember reading the top unemployment rate in Massachusetts was $49,900 a year. Why go to work? Also, it is amazing how many people find work just before the benefits end.

I have decided that it’s time to cash in and scam the Government for all I can get.

My niece is attending an Ivy League college. She learned a couple months ago, every student she knows in her department gets food stamps. They told her to apply too. So she did, and was approved. No attempt was ever made to verify her income or family resources. Now she gets something like $330/month. For some unknown reason, this month she got double.

Knowing my personal and political opinions, she mentioned it to me. I told her -- if Blue-state @ssholes are dropping money from helicopters, she should go for it and get all she can get now.

We are in the end-stage of the American Republic, where money is printed and government debt is imagined to be unlimited. It funds every insane woke social engineering scheme, and neocon war they can dream up. It won't last much longer.

They aren’t “driving” people from the workforce. They are paying them to mooch off the system. And who can blame them. I am temped to take a temp job just to reset my “benefits” after running my own business for 15 years and having it destroyed by our idiot governor during kung flu.

If you find this disgusting I suggest you don’t visit Hawaii. Becoming a single mother to a “native” is a career path. Bonus for multiple baby native daddies.
