Always keep your belt on, unless you’re walking to the bathroom.

It’s rare but it happens, thus the seat belts.

Landing in Denver in the afternoons can get scary bumpy.

Must be all that hot air flying over the Kenyans mansion.

Flying across a mountain ridge in my plane one night and I hit an updraft I trimmed the plane for. Eventually I ran out of trim and reduced power settings to hold my assigned attitude. I wasn't thinking. I crossed the ridge (updraft side) to the other side and had my head smashed into the cockpit ductwork. My wife and kids were glued to the ceiling in the back. We dropped 3000' in about fifteen seconds.
After that I always wear my lap belt.

I experienced that type of turbulence in the fifties over the Gulf when Hurricane Audrey was approching. A stewardess was buckled in crying. A military pilot was throwing up. I was pregnant trying to miscarry, holding a 2 year old and in pure paralyzed shock. Reading that article, I was lucky to have held on to my 2 year old.

“anyone who wasn’t wearing their seatbelt”
A lapbelt is way better than nuffin in vehicles in motion.

I was on the same flight (HA 35) three years ago. Smooth as butter. This particular flight must have caught the tail end of a storm system that passed through the area a few days ago.

Checked Honolulu weather. There is a severe “High Wind Warning” across all the islands - ripe conditions for an event like this. The plane must have flown straight into a downdraft.

My dad was a pilot for Braniff back in the day. We asked him if he ever flew in and around thunderstorms. He said “no” because he didn’t want to leave the cockpit and smell all of the puke from the “little old ladies” in the back when they landed.

My sister, a former TWA flight attendant, sustained serious injuries due to inflight turbulence. You MUST wear your seat belt at all times.

Ultimately weather’s fault, but weather isn’t rich.
