THE GIFT OF THE MAGI

Those of you who are more "mature" Marines & Sailors will remember one of the pre-eminent TV series of the '50's, Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. Many of these programs were quite scary, but they usually had a good moral and made the point in a rather unforgettable manner.

On one episode, an astronaut is readying for his blast off on a fifty-year mission to outer space. He is to be placed in a state of suspended animation and will not age one day by the time he returns to Earth. As fate has it, he meets a lovely woman the evening before launch, and it is love at first sight for both of them. They agonize over the love and marriage they will be unable to share because of the space voyage. The next morning his space flight begins. The woman is visibly shaken by the cruel plot fate played on the two of them.

In the final scene, fifty years hence, NASA brings the rocket back to Earth. The capsule is opened and an aged man emerges from inside. He pulled the plug on the cryogenic machine before the launch. The face of his fiancée is then shown. She is still young and vibrant; she had herself placed in suspended animation on the day of the launch! One engineer then reflects: I feel blessed to have met two people who truly knew the meaning of love! End of program.

These two people, motivated by real love, were prepared to make an unusual sacrifice for each other. Sometimes we forget that keeping love strong in marriage requires a commitment to LOVE...and like any commitment, that means dedication, work, sacrifice. Too many people give up on relationships when the going gets rough because they don't understand how much effort and sacrifice for one another is necessary to sustain a marriage. May we all realize the true meaning of love and marriage...and what is required to sustain this wonderful gift from above!

Howdy, Kathy.

Did you manage to shovel a path for deliveries last evening or today? My back aches just thinking about it, you have so much snow. LOL

Not a very pretty day up there today. It even spit snow for a while at the airports.

So true, you could see what was coming, but it is a great love story.

I just got home from my regular Saturday run to the office. Enough traffic has been in and out of my street to manage getting out to the plowed street at the corner. Traffic getting there and home was heavy, but not too bad. Just about all corners are now blind because there is SO MUCH plowed snow and huge berms that you can’t see traffic coming. But the VERY WORST was trying to get out of the parking lot. The office is on the 4th floor of the biggest mall in town (there are only 2...LOL). The parking lot was crammed full, but I have a handicapped placard and I got the last slot.

The Miracle of Christmas

Read: Romans 8:1–10

[God sent] his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. Romans 8:3

At a garage sale, I found a nativity set in a beat-up cardboard box. As I picked up the baby Jesus, I noticed the finely sculpted details of the infant’s body. This newborn wasn’t cocooned in a blanket with closed eyes—he was awake and partially unwrapped with outstretched arms, open hands, and fingers extended. “I’m here!” he seemed to say.

The figurine illustrated the miracle of Christmas—that God sent His Son to earth in a human body. As Jesus’ infant body matured, His little hands played with toys, eventually held the Torah, and then fashioned furniture before His ministry began. His feet, once plump and perfect at birth, grew to carry Him from place to place to teach and heal. At the end of His life, these human hands and feet would be pierced with nails to hold His body on the cross.

“In that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins,” Romans 8:3 (nlt) says. If we accept Jesus’ sacrifice as payment for all our wrongs and submit our lives to Him, we’ll find relief from sin’s bondage. Because the Son of God was born to us as a real, wiggling, kicking infant, there’s a way to have peace with God and the assurance of an eternity with Him. — Jennifer Benson Schuldt

What’s the difference between celebrating Jesus at Christmas and celebrating the season of Christmas?

Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to earth as a human baby to free me from the bondage of sin and death.

Oh my gosh...there is a real city plow here!!! He made a couple passes and the cul-de-sac is clean, and the pile in the middle is taller. I made it to the corner and bus route on my way to work, but all the way out to Tudor is only a lane and a half wide. People were taking turns tucking over into driveways to let each other pass.

Hey there, Kathy.

Not freezing yet during the day just yet but the nighttime temps are in the low to mid 20s the next several days. Friday is when we get the big cold blast down here. Highs in the 20s with lows in the low teens. BRRRRRRRRRR

One of the Anchorage chatters said the official snow total at Stevens for the past 11 days is 41 inches.
Then he said he has 60 inches in his back yard. I know you have an awful lot in your yard.
