Former President Donald Trump has backed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in his bid for speaker while saying that McCarthy’s opponents should fall in line.
“I support McCarthy,” Trump told Breitbart News on Dec. 15.
“Look, I think this: Kevin has worked very hard,” Trump added. “He is just—it’s been exhausting. If you think, he’s been all over. I think he deserves the shot. Hopefully, he’s going to be very strong and going to be very good and he’s going to do what everybody wants.”
McCarthy, 57, has been in the House GOP leadership since 2009, during his second term in office. But he has never been speaker.
McCarthy was in the running to succeed then-House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in 2015 but abruptly dropped out before the conference vote. Then-Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) ended up succeeding Boehner.
Both Boehner and Ryan have since left Congress and McCarthy won the House Republican nomination in November. The speaker, though, must also receive the most votes in a session with members of both parties, and Republicans will only hold a slim majority when the new Congress is sworn in shortly after the New Year.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), 64, whom McCarthy defeated in the conference vote, has said he would be challenging McCarthy again in the upcoming session. At least four other members, including Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), have publicly opposed McCarthy and said they will not or likely will not vote for him.
“Rep. Norman sincerely likes Rep. McCarthy on a personal level,” a spokesman for Norman told The Epoch Times. “However, Rep. Norman is extremely concerned with the direction of this country, particularly with respect to the federal government’s out-of-control spending and outrageous national debt.”

If the losers do not respect the outcome of the party caucus vote, it is nothing but chaos and destruction for the GOP.
Less than zero. McCarthy will slip in the knife when Trump is most vulnerable and applaud the upcoming J6 committee referral and DOJ indictment. IMO
5D chess by the master. POTUS is SPOTLIGHTING McCarthy to force him into position of STATESMAN or Traitor. Now it is up to McCarthy to “Choose Wisely” or not.
With this endorsement McCarthy may no longer talk the good talk. He must Walk the good Walk and be known by the fruit on his tree from this moment in time and History will record his deeds or misdeeds forever.
POTUS gave Mitchy the Kid this same opportunity and he stood up on judges to be counted, but was shown to have no follow through. He is still showing his deceitful nature today.
I shall add McCarthy and the rest of the GOP leaders to my prayers in hope they will not despitefully use us.
WWG1WGA!
Uh, the political reality is that the conservative position has nothing to gain with McCarthy, therefore you might as well fight him tooth and nail.
Big mistake among smaller mistakes. Oz was a mistake for PA. McCarthy is a mistake for the nation. Trump is slowly losing me.
We got Gibbs in MI as a Trump pick. He lost by a Longshot. Wasn’t even close. Trump votes with the money.
A leader can’t.. yet we were locked down, masked, sending money to everyone and businesses to do nothing, mail in allots, bumpstock bans, but our savior bi Parma got us back on track.
.
Pence was trying to get Luntz inside in a prominent position of authority in the Trump Admin. Luntz is a rabid Never Trumper.
Luntz is just too close to McCarthy, ridiculously close.
If Trump wins, he’ll be blocked again by his own party.
What has changed?

House Republicans plan to pass a three-month continuing resolution to fund the government this month and will push any fight over President Donald Trump’s border wall until later this year, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday.”
Agreed. Also I wish Trump had considered reality and conceded in December 2020 when things looked settled. Instead of making a mess of it in January.
Whenever he is on TV he always says the same speech
Nothing but platitudes, no plan whatsoever!
He’s got nothing of substance
Dems will vote for him.
Same old same old... No wonder they always get their asses handed to them. McCarthy really hasn’t done anything to deserve being made speaker.
