Oberlin College in Ohio paid a local bakery a more than $36 million judgment for defaming them after a 2016 incident at the business.

"We can confirm that all funds have been disbursed and that the family is continuing with the process of rebuilding Gibson’s Bakery for the next generations," Brandon McHugh, attorney for Gibson’s Bakery in Oberlin told Cleveland’s WKYC 3News on Thursday.

The lawsuit and damages award came after a 2016 incident where the bakery co-owner’s son, Allyn Gibson, chased and tackled a Black male Oberlin College student suspected of stealing a bottle of wine from the business.

I’d still sell the place if I were them. It is likely to be targeted the next time the left riots over something.

The $36M will allow them to buy and tear down nearby buildings out to about 50 meters and pay for 4 surplus quad .50 emplacements.

Re-open in another city near a college like Liberty University or Hillsdale. They’ll love it.

The amazing thing is originally all that the bakery asked for from Oberlin was an apology. This has to be the most expensive case of extreme virtue signaling ever. That $36M loss by the university should result in heads rolling in the legal department at Oberlin for pushing such a case instead of apologizing up front. But I know in the woke bubble inhabited by Oberlin, they think they are the aggrieved party. Leftists cannot learn from their mistakes because they don’t believe they ever make mistakes.

Good.

And let this be a lesson and set a precedent.

I doubt anything happened to the “teen” who stole the bottle of wine - or the faculty members who perpetrated this atrocity against the bakery (think they would have done same if it were a Muslim or gay-owned business?).

36 million? Woke should hurt, just as much as stupid. Hopefully that’s enough of a head slap to force some changes in the college.

“Due to recent unforeseen events, Oberlin will be forced to increase tuition by 20% for the coming year.

We plan to give your children the same quality education as before with an emphasis on diversity, inclusion and social justice.”

Nope, not at Oberlin. Think mid-west Berkley.

For those who may not know, Oberlin might be the most liberal college on the planet. This is just another example where blacks feel entitled and that theft is acceptable for them. Sadly, I am hard-pressed to explain why other students protested against the bakery knowing that the three involved students were guilty, unless you accept the tenet that blacks don’t have to accept responsibility for their actions because they are black. And don’t fall for the argument that they are discriminated against because they are black. If that’s the case, why do other minorities escape the same level of discrimination? I think it’s because of observed behavior.

I think the family promised their dad they would carry on with the bakery….
…but if I were them I would move to Florida and relax…..
…they’ve been through the wringer.

Most towns would love a good bakery!

We don't know if the left wing leadership of the college followed legal advice or not. As long as the actions aren't sanctionable, you do what the client pays you to do, papering the file with CYA memos and emails.
