Patriot Missile-Defense Systems Would Be Legitimate Target, Kremlin Says

MOSCOW—The Kremlin said that U.S. Patriot missile-defense systems would be a legitimate target if supplied to Ukraine, signaling that Russia doesn’t intend to cease its military offensive even in the face of superior weaponry.

U.S. officials this week said Washington was finalizing plans to provide Ukraine with the highly advanced weaponry that would significantly boost its air-defense capabilities, following months of Russian missile and drone attacks on the country’s power grid, cities and civilian infrastructure.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Wednesday that the coveted missile- defense batteries would absolutely be fair game for a strike, but added that he would rather not comment further until there was official information on the matter, as opposed to media reports, which he described as unreliable.

Mr. Peskov was responding to a question on whether he agreed with comments made last month by Russia’s Security Council deputy chairman, Dmitry Medvedev, that the delivery of such systems to Ukraine would “immediately become a legitimate target for Russia’s armed forces.”

If the Biden administration moves forward with a decision, which could come as early as this week, the Patriots would be the most sophisticated system the U.S. has provided Ukraine since Russia invaded its smaller neighbor in February.

Frustrated by battlefield setbacks, Russia has increasingly reverted to targeting Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, primarily using Iranian-made drones. On Wednesday, Ukrainian air defenses repelled a wave of Russian strikes in Kyiv, knocking at least 13 drones out of the sky, with explosions reported in the historical center of the city, according to Ukrainian officials.

Why did you write this as if it was our nation defending against drones within our borders?

We have no dog in this hunt, or we should not.   What kind of sickness is this?

The only people cheering for nuclear war are putin’s propagandists (Solovyev, Simonyan, etc.)

You should pay more attention to the Globalists and NeoCons who are pushing this war.

Their first precept is

Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
That means they have to kill Seven and a Half Billion of us.

Justin Trudeau, Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelenskyy are the most prominent members of the World Economic Forum's The Young Global Leaders®.   Klaus Schwab's foot soldiers are placed in strategic positions around the world.

The only way I know of to kill 7.5 Billion people is nuclear destruction.

The oligarchs at the top have enough wealth to assure their survival.

Ukraine was never any threat to russia

But NATO in his breadbasket is a threat, just as Russian missiles in Cuba was a threat to US.   Can't you see the comparison?   You cannot be that dense.

A nuclear war that would kill 7.5 billion people would leave the other 0.5 billion people wishing they had died also. This is the worst kind of tinfoil hattery. Your conjured-up evil masterminds are clever enough to trick putin into war but simultaneously stupid enough to want an extinction-level nuclear armageddon. I would sooner believe that covid was supposed to achieve this reduction in population, but in that case the elites would have a vaccine that actually works.

I’m going to continue to apply Occam’s razor, and conclude that the reason russia invaded Ukraine is because putin is a deluded megalomaniac who thought that he would easily grab territory and resources. That is a story as old as mankind, been repeated many times before and will be repeated many times again. No need to invoke imaginary supervillains.

I don't want it, I want to caution against it.

I do think it rich that you can read Putin's mind, but I can't read Klaus Schwab's mind.   And remember you brought up Covid-19's biowarfare aspect.   I hope you think of me when the mushroom clouds are on the horizon.

I do not know why you are saying this. I think you are reading things into my post that are not there.

My reply was to nascarnation's proposal to use inexpensive means of air defense to defend a friendly asset or target. It was a quick thumbnail analysis that might be the start of a more detailed operations analysis study. These studies go on in every military and have the objective of obtaining the biggest bang for the military bucks that you can.

What kind of sickness is this?

If you think that the use of operations research to obtain the biggest bang for the military bucks that you can is sick, well a lot of us on this site will disagree.

LOL   Yes I do think your "operations research to obtain the biggest bang for the military bucks" discussion of an article titled

is just a little sick.

No comparison. NATO is only a threat to a country that is not peaceful ie Russia. Russia can only look on NATO as a threat because it does not have peaceful relations in mind with other countries. You can't be that dense.

Sigh...   All the way back to Peter the Great, Russia has felt like the bastard stepchild of Europe because that is how they were treated.   In this day and age, we continue to drive that home by treating Russia as bad or worse than we have treated our own Native Americans up to this very moment.   Russia doesn't trust us because we are not to be trusted.

When Russia ended Communism, I thought it would be the end of the Cold War with both nations standing side by side, continuing the alliance we have in the International Space station along with several other areas of mutual concern.

Neocons want to control the world, but President Trump and President Putin are both in the way so the puppet masters are doing their best to take them out.

Russians are not the evil you should fear.   The real evil is much closer to home.

The idea that the Russian were motivated by paranoia is nonsense. They were motivated by ideology and lately by nationalism. The fact that they were some how poor paranoids is nonsense. This is what libs said during the cold war.

I agree completely.

The idea that they have always been slighted by European metropolitan elites creates a driving motivation to not let it continue over and over again.   This is human nature.

After the fall of the Soviet Union only thirty years ago, why do you and others feel the need to destroy Russia all over again?   Shouldn't once have been enough?

To slow your unhinged retort, consider that NATO was created by winners of WWII to thwart the spread of Communism from the Soviet Union.   Our side won the Cold War.   Russians were starving in the aftermath.   I applauded the people marching in the streets behind Boris Yeltsin.   I was proud they had shrugged off the Iron Chains of Communist tyranny.

But that wasn't the end of it. NATO had to expand and grow mighty!   We destroyed their country but powers that be apparently needed Russia to be under NATO's boot.   This is insanity.

All of the Ukraine worshipers on the forum, can't wrap their minds around the thought that this American instigated Proxy War proves that President Putin was right about his suspicions that Ukraine would be used as a proxy of the United States if he didn't attempt to prevent it.

All of the Putin Fanbois on the forum can't wrap their minds around the thought that the reason all of Russia's neighbors fear that Russia wants to invade and dominate them, is that Russia in fact wants to invade and dominate all of its neighbors.

The former Warsaw Pact nations, and former Soviet Republics, that escaped the Russian yoke when the USSR collapsed feared, with good reason, that their escape would be as ephemeral as that of Ukraine, and the Caucus and Baltic Republics, when the Russian Empire collapsed. Has the growth of NATO fueled Russian paranoia? Sure. But Russia's drive to invade and dominate its neighbors is the cause of the growth of NATO.

Bull feathers! Russia needs to be destroyed again. It is still the biggest long term threat to everyone else in the world. Nixon predicted at the fall of the Soviet Union that Russian nationalism would still be a problem and he was right. This is our chance to put an end to it.
