There’s No Natural ‘Carrying Capacity’ for the Human Population
American Institute for Economic Research ^ | November 30th, 2022 | Donald J. Boudreaux

Posted on 12/13/2022 1:58:46 PM PST by ChessExpert

The late, great Julian Simon spent decades battling intellectually against biologists and zoologists who were convinced that human population growth, if governments did not hold it in check with draconian measures, would spell doom for multitudes of humans.

The idea that Earth has a fixed "carrying capacity" for people is just warmed-over Malthusian economics (biology). Like Marxism and environmental extremism it is just a bad idea that refuses to die.

Who wants to take the time and energy to dispute a bad idea that is held by some fanatic? No one. So, the bad ideas accumulate and eventually bear fruit. If there is a program to eradicate much of humanity, it is probably due to the unwarranted fear of over-population.

There have been seven agricultural revolutions that have been born in the last 20 years or so that will together enable earth to support populations that are 100 times the size of the current population.

There is a carrying capacity but does not stay fixed. Every advancement increases the carrying capacity: discovery of how to control fire, agriculture, domestication of animals, and on and on.

We don’t have any idea how future advancements might increase it.

The strange (or nefarious) thing is that the eco-globalist fascists are trying to get rid of advancements for a hoax which will decrease the carrying capacity.

I read “carrying capacity” and thought it was in reference to how many ammo magazines one could carry on their person.

To save billions, you have to kill billions.

There are too many people. It’s not rocket science and it’s not conservative or leftist to say so. It’s common sense. I say this...if you don’t think the world has too many people you are a stupid idiot.

Socialism and welfare states create the very blights they promise to eliminate while big government and elite NGO bureaucrats, who produce nothing of value and may yet dare call others useless eaters, only consume wealth and do likewise.

At face value, I agree, although I am 10,000 percent against the Left’s solution to the problem.

Be assured, there is a special place in Hell.....

Anyone remember the 1980’s when Africa was starving to death, and every other commercial on TV was an add for aid to Africa?

well... we helped them, and now the population of Africa has nearly TRIPLED from its level then!

As usual liberals make problems worse.

“ Every advancement increases the carrying capacity…”

Greening fertilizer and food production and transport will reduce the carrying capacity, especially for those places in the world that already have poor infrastructure.

Famine exasperated by Muslims waging civil wars as well as kleptocracies in general (or would that be “in presidents for life who were often also generals”?) ... which usually emulated the USSR.

Sending food didn’t hurt, though Sam Kinison was funny to say we should sent U-Hauls to those living in deserts.

Now the increase in population is because things stabilized for a while, droughts do end. At least until now that black pan-nationalists started removing white farmers from their farms and stuff like that there.

Hey, farms the Gates doesn’t have to buy up to put out of use.

Bucky Fuller spent many hours speaking and writing @ the errors of the Malthusians.

Bucky's answer is what he called "ephemeralization" - the ability to do more/grow more/create more...with Less.
