Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said she has identified one of the "massive" reasons Republicans significantly underperformed in last month's midterm elections.
McDaniel said a "massive amount" of ticket-splitting was one of the top factors that led to GOP losses in some key races this election cycle despite winning in other races on the same ballot, speaking with John Catsimatidis on Cats Roundtable on the radio station WABC 77 on Sunday.
"Ticket-splitting was everywhere. We won eight races statewide in Georgia, but then Warnock wins the runoff. Ron Johnson wins in Wisconsin, but Evers holds the governorship," McDaniel said. "It’s not a one size fits all."
McDaniel also mentioned how the GOP cannot ignore abortion as a matter for voters, saying it gave Democrats an opportunity this past election.
"We’ve got to get conversant on that. It was probably a bigger factor than a lot of people thought. We can’t just do an ostrich method and pretend that it doesn’t exist when Democrats are spending $30 million on that message," McDaniel said. "In Pennsylvania and Michigan, that was a huge issue."

Yep OZ was handed the best chance any gOP could ask for, and lost.
Like I said GOP didn’t even take the field in 18… conceded from the start
Given $100,000,000 spent to push OZ and high profile of race nothing surprising OZ did better than Barletta… he should have. Had an opponent who couldn’t campaign had 10 times the amount spent to back him.. and a very high profile race…
Fact D underperformed 18 makes any argument for fraud costing OZ the race a ridiculous claim
The tool shows The Usual Suspect counties, with some interesting exceptions.
I have no doubt some fraud occurred.. always does. Loss because of it, color me dubious. Look forward to you numbers
The “problem” is that Democrats put party before all else. They have grasped that you cannot get ANYTHING done unless you have power and the only way to have power is to have the seats. If you candidate is brain dead, or a pervert, or tax cheat you deal with that later - first get the seat.
It is an amoral perspective that Republicans do not grasp and will continue to lose because of it.
When I started FSU in 1980 I was a Government major. They didn’t have a Political Science major. The explanation was twofold - there was no science to politics and governing was a proud duty and politics was a dirty slimy mess. By the time I graduated in 1983 they had renamed it the Department of Political Science. Draw your own conclusions.
You will often hear both sides talk about how ideologically pure a candidate is, but the D’s do not discuss their candidates personal lives. It doesn’t matter to them. Frankly, even ideology isn’t that important to the Ds. LOYALTY is important. Will the candidate vote with the party when called upon to do so is the ONLY litmus test.
You can talk about the Republicans “lowering themselves to their level” all you want. It is all moot. Call it a “big tent”. Call it “reaching out”. Whatever. Until we get some leadership that sets a clear course, enforces loyalty, and punishes those that go off the reservation, we will always be second tier.
You compare Obama 2008 by county to JoeTatoe 2020 by county, then plot the percentages on a state map by county.
Then, you can see the hot spots.
You can also plot Obama 2008 by county compared to Cankles 2016, to see where they "fortified" a state for 2020.
You have to do 2008 to 2020 FIRST, then 2008 to 2016, otherwise there doesn't appear to be much correlation.
In this instance, I have compared the 2018 numbers to the 2022 numbers, and used my map from 2008-2020 to examine the hot-spot counties in 2022.
You also want to examine the non-hot-spot counties to see what the normalized Casey turnout versus Senatrix Gisele was.
This is a very visual tool, because you can't really see what's going on without the county map.
A by-precinct analysis would also be useful.
Finally, if you detect what looks like rigging [a huge gain over the Casey 2018 number], you have to figure that the real total is some percentage LESS than Casey 2018.
That's a rule of thumb.
There IS always the possibility that they actually Got Out The Vote in certain counties instead of Getting Out The Cheat.
Right.
One of the biggest problems with the Republican Party is that the votes of the Republican-conservative coalition allows many Republican candidates to simply back into political office without having to "fight like a Democrat".
Well I have no doubt they got out the vote… D’s ground game put the GOP to shame…
I also have no doubt fraud happened but don’t see any way in hell fraud was the cause for the loss.
OZ was just terrible off brand candidate. This wasn’t 2020… this was a candidate that even among the GOP faithful had no enthusiasm… there was nothing for him anywhere. Just a begrudging “at least he’s not Fetterman”…
IDIOCY!
Your dissertations mean ZERO. Why? You and your townsfolk chose not to vote for Oz. You, and I’m sure many others, haloed out a vegetable in the US Senate.
At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter anymore.
Pennsylvania is Blue across the board in terms of government. Republican Pennsylvanians are about to pay a heavy price.
And you helped out.
PA Gov and Senate weren’t even close. You have to be delusional to put that down to fraud. There are plenty of delusional people around these days.
It’s apparent there’s a large minority of Republicans that will not vote for anything/anyone associated with Trump.
We MUST return the favor.
RINO’s did not vote for MAGA candidates they stabbed us in the back.
The blatancy of the fraud in PA in 2020 was only due to Trump getting the most votes in the history of presidential elections, something the uniparty couldn’t imagine.
So they had to stop everything and make a blatant maneuver in front of the world.
They will never need to to do that again. Because electronic voting and mail-in ballots are now fully and completely manipulated. Do you get it?
Sorry, but once again WRONG.
Pointing the reality of a situation, doesn’t mean you helped the “other guy”
The folks who helped the other guy were fools like yourself and the flapping lipped idiots like Hannity et all that sold you and other fools like you a bill of goods that Oz could win in PA.
He couldn’t.. people who actually live and breath in PA warned you, called it way way back during the Primary that OZ was unelectable... and folks like you just decided to call us names and continue to do so.
Want to be mad at someone, be mad at the people who sold you a lie, and be mad at yourself for falling for it.
You had to have less functioning grey matter than Fetterman has to think OZ ever had any prayer in PA as a statewide candidate. You were warned... but you chose to swallow a lie that you wanted to hear, than to listen to a truth you didn’t like.
The reason Fetterman won was because OZ was an off brand turd of a candidate, period. Get mad at me for telling you the truth all you like, but you really should be angry at the folks who pissed on your leg and told you it was rain selling you OZ as a winner.... And you should honestly be mad at yourself for being gullible enough to believe it.
Exactly the folks pushing fraud is why Oz lost are just foolish and deluded folks.
Run a crap candidate get a crap result.. and for PA in a statewide race, OZ was the crappiest of crap candidates.
Sorry, you are deluding yourself on this entire topic.
2020 was a demonstrable fraud.
2022 was a horrible candidate, period.
Was their fraud in 2022? of course, there is always fraud, but if you think Fetterman won this race due to fraud you are just in self denial.
To win as an R in a statewide race in PA you need to get every single R vote you can find and then win independents by more than 2 to 1... and/or peel away an insane amount of Democrats from their candidate.
OZ had ZERO, absolutely ZERO chance of pulling that off... There was ZERO enthusiasm on the ground for this turd, even among republican voters.. you think you are going to win independents by more than 2 to 1 with a candidate who can’t even excite the base? Be serious.
Here is the 2022 map
https://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/General/SummaryResults?ElectionID=83&ElectionType=G&IsActive=0
Here is the 2020 map
https://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/
Go ahead, show me the fraud... show me... show me where Fetterman massively overperformed for a Democrat.. GO ahead, I’ll wait.
Reality is he didn’t, due to his stroke he was an very weak candidate too, but he was a weak candidate in a state where 46% of the electorate are registered democrat.
Reality is Fetterman got fewer votes than Casey did in the last Senate race here in 2018.... That’s right the oh so miraculous fraud machine that dominates it all now, put fewer votes in the box for Fetterman than Casey got in 2018...
The Fraud claim is garbage.
Was their fraud in PA? There is fraud in every election, but the claim that OZ lost due to fraud is just flat out hogwash.
Oz was a crap candidate.
Oz grossly underperformed EVERYWHERE in the state... in terms of vote percentages he only beat Trump in 3 counties I believe, that’s it.. he was a DUD...
He had an opponent that couldn’t campaign and 100,000,000 behind him, he could not have asked for any more to go in his favor as a Republican and he still lost... he was off brand turd.. pure and simple.
He was so bad, that for that $100,000,000 they pumped behind him, he wound up with a whopping 250k more votes than the last Republican to run for the senate got here, who only had $10,000,000 spent on him... So for $90,000,000 Oz got a whopping 250k more votes.. or for $90,000,000 he out performed the last Senate election by 11%.
Run a crap candidate get a crap result. Oz did not lose due to fraud.. he lost because he was an off brand candidate who never had a prayer.
Being a Muslim from New Jersey probably didn’t help his cause either.
And the fact that the person who made Oz famous in the first place (Blowprah) endorsed Fetterman.
Yeah that was a bad plan from the beginning.
It wouldn’t have mattered what GOP candidate would have run. Fetterman was going to win. Quoting a bar patron near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania ‘He looks like one of us!’. I heard similar statements in Point Marion and elsewhere in blue collar Pa. He made that sale way before this past election.
