Vladimir Putin had been due to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this month. However, in a sign of growing Russian isolation on the world stage, an Indian government source said the meeting has now been abruptly cancelled.
The move to cancel the annual face-to-face meeting was taken after veiled threats by Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war, according to Bloomberg News.
Indian and Russian leaders have held face-to-face meetings every year for the past 21 years - except for 2020 due to Covid.
An Indian official told Bloomberg that a meeting with President Putin under the current circumstances would not help Prime Minister Modi's image.
The Indian PM, who has been a strong ally of Russia, appeared to first criticise his Russian counterpart publicly in September over his invasion of Ukraine.
Responding to Russia's threat of nuclear weapons, PM Modi said "today's era is not an era of war".
However, it marks the latest snub for President Putin, who was shunned by traditional ally Armenia last month after its leader asked France to chair peace talks with Azerbaijan instead of Russia.
In September, Kazakhstan's president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev implicitly criticised Russia's war in Ukraine in a break with its long-term ally.

I foresee India remaining a neutral third party between the West and Russia.
Modi met privately with Putin about 2 weeks ago at the SCO. This story is likely bogus.
Modi doesn’t want too much of Putin’s public affairs genius in terrorism to rub off on him, because he might overdose on it. ;D

My guess is that India would “tilt” away from the West (aka the USA) that provides substantial MILITARY assistance to Pakistan, India’s arch enemy. Just sayin’.
Just might be. A head fake here and a head fake there. Or maybe a bargaining ploy to get a larger discount on Russian oil. If Modi is any good he will know that Russia has to move its oil. Or else the pipes and valves crack open in Siberia from pressures. From the water that comes up with the oil, as these waters freeze and expand...Hhahahhaha Russians are effed.

He will be packing in February because he will be dead or deposed in March. After the spring thaw. Putin is currently talking to his Swiss bankers to make arrangements for when he lands in Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, North Korea. There are many possibilities. Argentina was mentioned. Patagonia and Tierra Del Fuego sound nice.
