International travelers have been flocking back to the popular resort island of Bali as the Covid pandemic subsides, prompting hopes that Indonesia's battered tourism industry is on the road to recovery.
But this week, controversial new laws were passed in parliament that ban cohabitation and sex outside marriage. The laws will apply not just to residents but also to foreign expats and tourists in the country -- raising concerns from experts.
Although the changes are not expected to kick in for at least another three years, industry players tell CNN that the new criminal code could put foreigners off visiting and hurt the country's global reputation, starving it of vital tourism revenues.

OK, words fail me on this one.
I’d be a conscientious objector due to Joe’s woke military and banana republic.
Some the guys visit Bali because of the adult businesses. Which from the article will be phased out in 3 years or so.
>> ban cohabitation and sex outside marriage. <<
Does this mean that homosexuality is also banned?
Ideal place for tourism.if they haven’t banned booze.
Why?
I know.
Still, their biggest concern is that morality will hurt their cash inflow?.
and some guys visit places like Bali because of the little tiny girls.....
Indonesia is an Islamic country so booze is not allowed.
Or Thailand.
Jokers,
Child brides are accepted pretty much throughout the Islamic world due to Mohammed and his ayesha.
She was 6 and he was over 50. He had sex with her when she was 9 years old.
Where’s the morality?
“Me love you even longer time”...
What law has ever been successful in preventing intimacy between men and women. The aw is designed to cut down on commercial sex trade and its related slavery , drug addiction and human trafficking problems.
You can look for love in Bali but if you pay for it, your significant other may well be a police officer.
Do not forget. Indonesia is now a Muslim country.Once charged an offender has little due process rights.
i dont know why... most of those countries have always used the oldest proffession in the world to survive. muslims got voted in as leaders in jakarta... now all the islands are under their rules.
they have on many beaches!!
Maybe they will turn into very desired vacation spot for married couples!
I am old enough, I do not like those party places!
Now, maybe, I will give Indonesia a try!
A funny thing happened on the road to total devastation.
Years ago Gulf Shores Alabama was a spring break haven for southern and mid-west college students. They flocked there by the tens of thousands. The alcohol flowed and the beaches were one big party scene.
Then the unthinkable happened. Due to numerous accidents and increased crime, the town banned alcohol on the beaches for the spring months. Oh no, cried the critics. Our town will die from the loss of tourism.
Quite the opposite happened. The spring breakers never did buy much locally. They would bring a lot of their own party supplies with them and didn’t frequent many of the local businesses or restaurants either.
The spring breakers went elsewhere to party and Gulf Shores became a popular, family friendly vacation destination. Businesses boomed and the town grew.
So don’t buy into the doom and gloom predictions.
EC
Sex outside of marriage is illegal...very illegal...in Dubai. I’ve read that the police there have hotel desk clerks...and maids...acting as informants to report “suspicious” things.
Indonesia, like Singapore, hangs drug “traffickers”. And “trafficker” is defined as being in possession of more than “X” grams of certain drugs. They’ll hang you if you’re a local...a Brit...an Aussie...or an American.
