Gov. Kathy Hochul has a piece of legislation sitting on her desk that would allow casino operators to hire a diverse range of convicted felons — from drug peddlers to killers.
The measure was sent on Tuesday to the governor for her signature or veto after passing the state Senate and Assembly by big bipartisan margins in June.
Current law bars licensed casino operators from hiring anyone convicted of any felony.
Critics blasted the bill as an another example of a Democrats’ bleeding heart, criminal friendly proposal run amok.
“That’s just wrong. This is another example of the New York State Legislature imposing a liberal policy in an area they shouldn’t touch,” said state Conservative Party chairman Gerald Kassar.
But lawmakers said casino operators — including Rush Street Rivers Casino in Schenectady — have complained they’re having difficulty hiring workers for food service and cleaning positions

I thought it was a requirement that criminals work at casinos, especially the state revenuers.

Part of the reason why former prisoners end up back in prison again is the difficulty getting work after they are released.

The problem with Hochul, as with all top tier NY democrats, is that she can never be removed by an election. The only way a top tier democrat has ever been removed from NY government since the 90s is by scandal. The threshold for scandal is so high, that nothing is actually scandalous anymore.
What could go wrong?
I’m sure working to be able to resume funding the drug habit that put them in prison, to begin with is the ticket out.
The only downside is will there be enough parolee’s to fill the panhandler’s positions at every intersection

Let Hochul hire them to work at her house and the State house. She can trade in her state police detail for a bunch of ex-cons.
Maybe she can have theft and robbery convicts as well as a few rapists work in a casino. That will definitely help business.
It would have been really nice if the Post told us what the actual bill is titled so we could look at it instead of just taking their word on it.
