Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Two women sued Apple in California federal court on Monday charging that the tech company did not do enough to prevent them from being stalked with the use of its AirTags.
In the class action lawsuit filed in the U.S. Northern District Court of California on Monday, one alleged victim said she found her ex-husband left an AirTag in her child's backpack and once she disabled it she located a second one.
In the second incident, Lauren Hughes claimed after ending a three-month relationship, her former companion harassed her with blocked numbers, fake social media profiles to follow her social media accounts and left threatening voicemails.
Hughes said after receiving an alert, she discovered a tracking AirTag inside the wheel well of one of her back tires.
AirTags, which Apple rolled out in 2021, were designed to help Apple users find their misplaced tech devices. They can be purchased for as little as $29, connect to iPhones and iPads via Bluetooth technology, which can provide an approximate location if those devices are lost.

I keep an airtag in each of my vehicles, and in my bicycle. When extended family was visiting from back east, I lent them my car. It was amusing to see all the locations they visited while sightseeing. Also helps when you park far away and need to find your way back to the car. Also have one in my wallet, helps in locating my jacket. I might modify it because it’s bulky; people are already modifying them.
AND, sorry to burst your delusional bubble, but there ARE LAWS AGAINST STALKING in every state and legal locality in this country, and I’m pretty sure in the world. Your anti-Apple stance is overwhelming, because you cannot see all the other companies who are doing the same thing, but less mindful of what they are doing!
Defend the pro-genital mutilatng children Apple.
I remember a movie called "Rollerball", it was about corporations controlling the world and they used a brutal type of game called Rollerball to control the masses like the Romans did with "bread and circuses".
Go ahead and defend woke corporations, such as Apple.
“while Apple created a product to put other lives in jeopardy”
Baloney. And when your kid gets kidnapped, or your wife gets carjacked, or the best dog you’ve ever had is lost, or grandpa with alzheimers is missing on a freezing night, that Airtag will be the thing that saves their life.
…while Apple created a product to put other lives in jeopardy.

No. They created AirTags so you could keep track of things like luggage and backpacks. Any tool can be misused. Kitchen knives are intended to cut vegetables, but they also work as a murder weapon.
A step well beyond the idiocy of suing a gun manufacturer for the murder of a loved one by a crazed killer... using a firearm manufactured by said gun maker...
Airpods are really excellent but you should not wear them while jogging or walking in high-crime areas, or any areas for that matter. Jogging, hiking, bicycling, you are cutting yourself off from a primary warning system the lack of which could cause harm or death. It certainly isn’t good for your situational awareness. Also stupid people war them while driving. Apple also makes those phones that people are always looking at, at home, in bed, on the toilet, walking to the toilet, driving.... The phones could also be used to text things to people that could get you in real trouble.
“Let’s hope such an EMP solar blast will not happen”
It is inevitable unfortunately. 100k years out, 300 years away... we don’t know when. Earthquakes, weather systems, cosmological events. If you haven’t read a up-to-date Earth Sciences textbook, they’re available and they’re very reasonably priced used. It’s fascinating reading and it good refresher of the dynamic planet that we inhabit.
I purchased AirTags myself. An iPhone gives the user a warning if someone else’s AirTag remains in close proximity to them for a while.
Isn’t the detection of rogue AirTag use a matter of getting alerts on their iPhones?
My apologies for being a bit snarky. I see I’ve been bitten by an autocorrect error in my reply 20 and you were replying to that error… so sorry. I was impertinently imputing that damn autocorrect error to your reply. Please forgive me.
