Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel unveiled a monument in a north Moscow square on Tuesday to Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, pledging to deepen their friendship in the face of U.S. sanctions against both countries.

But Putin evoked his memory as he told Diaz-Canel the two countries needed to build on the "solid foundation of friendship" established between Castro and Soviet leaders.
"It's a real work of art - dynamic, in motion, moving forward. It creates the image of a fighter," Putin said of the statue, which portrays Castro gazing into the distance with hands on hips.

Stupid move on Putin’s part. Castro was a wildly corrupt Communist, and while Putin is your average Russian corruptocrat, he’s not a Communist.
He’s trying to cultivate friends, but he doesn’t realize how much Cubans hate Castro and anybody associated with him.
So Putin praises another dead communist dictator, as he further tightens government control over Russian businesses and Russians with his campaign of murders. He’s a commie.
Thanks, but I do think Nickcarraway made a valid observation
that this didn’t mean Russia was agreeing to be Cuba’s
protector, as I at first misunderstood that it was.
