What’s clear is that Kevin McCarthy’s math for becoming speaker is looking quite difficult. What’s less clear is who could fill the vacuum and take over if McCarthy (R-Calif.) can’t get the votes.
Five House Republicans have come out firmly against the House minority leader — a number that could be enough to defeat his candidacy in the narrowly GOP-controlled House. But there’s been very little in the way of putting forward an alternative. Part of that could be they simply don’t know who it is, while part of it could be that they want to avoid drawing attention to the would-be usurper ahead of the Jan. 3 vote.
“As you might imagine, those candidates are going to be very hesitant or reluctant to be in any way public,” Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.), who opposes McCarthy’s speaker bid, told CNN.
A potential McCarthy holdout, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.), added: “No one has got a clear vote that will get you there. And so we’re having a conversation about what it takes.”

The man that delivered THE SPEECH.
Mark Robinson, Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina.
The man does not back up one inch!
Yes, yours is one of the best answers so far. I only come here occasionally. I really thought there’d be more responses like yours.
I can’t believe all the wussy suggestions like McCarthy or Scalise I’m seeing on here.
Too damn many “conservatives” are anxious to raise the white flag. Folks, we don’t need more of the same.
Rodney Davis could be the son of a B.
Speaker Hastert wanted to unity behind him. Hastert appointed Schimkus to collect dirt on other congresscritters. Schimkus hired Rodney Davis to do it. Davis found skeletons.
In 1992 Michel said GOP would never get a majority in Congress. So IL Repblicans should support Al the Pal Democrat. Incensed Talk radio voters voted for Democrat seat warmer Braun in the primary. 6 yrs later for Fitzgerald.
Also remember. This original story is from the Washington Post. If they can’t have Nancy or another Democrat as Speaker, they want McCarthy.

Jordan. Scalise has an F on conservative voting. Jordan has an A.
That’s exactly what needs to be done. We need to crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and hear the lamentations of their women.
Liz Cheney
>>He would need 5 GOP lawmakers to crossover. Good freakin; luck witnessing that mass political suicide move.
Never underestimate the Cheney wing of the GOP.
I wonder why people keep pushing that lie. It won’t happen
Marjorie Taylor Greene is getting committees now and supports Kevin.
What Cheney wing? The only people who managed to win reelection and voted for Trump’s impeachment were Valadao and Newhouse, and it wasn’t like either was a vocal pro-Jan. 6 committee GOP’er either.
The rest (Cheney and Kinzinger) ain’t returning and Valadao and New House haven’t indicated plans to vote for Cheney or Jeffries.
The upcoming, long-overdue death of the GOP has nothing to do with fraud - although one of the CAUSES of death is weakness so profound that fraud goes on without complaint.
The GOP is dying because all the things it stands for and will fight for are opposed to the interests of the American nation and further the interests of the “donor community”, as life in core American cities and towns grows worse and worse.
On the happy day that the GOP finally expires, a real right wing opposition can begin to organize.
All these idiotic suggestions about Trump, MTG, Gohmert, Newt, even Jordan overlook the fact that there aren’t 30 votes for any of them, and that Jeffries only needs 4 Republican votes to be the next Speaker.
Once the “constitutional crisis” propaganda starts and the accusations of “racism” start for why four Republicans won’t vote for Jeffries, they will fold like a cheap suit.
DJT! You have my full support.
James Woods
How many votes do you imagine Jordan could get?
He’s starting with 30 - maybe. Jeffries is starting with 214.
Oh boy.
Good one—especially now!
