Alyssa Farah Griffin told her co-hosts Friday on ABC’s “The View” that the Holocaust “could happen again” if rapper Kanye West, white supremacist Nick Fuentes, and InfoWars host Alex Jones had platforms.
Co-host Joy Behar said, “So yesterday Kanye West found a safe space for his antisemitism when he was interviewed by conspiracy theorist and all-around awful person Alex Jones. West showed up in some kind of bondage hood and proclaimed his love for Hitler and the Nazis.”
Griffin said, “I watched clips of the live stream, and I hate that these people even have a platform. And I kept thinking to myself. I hope I never have to hear the names, Kanye West, Alex Jones, Nick Fuentes again. But the problem is this: Kanye West has 32 million Twitter followers. There are only 14 million Jews in the world. To put a finer point on it, 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and there’s only 7 million Jews in the U.S. We have to denounce this. We have to speak out because that kind of horror could happen again if these morons have platforms.”

As for nutjobs shooting up grocery stores (Buffalo) and schools and whatnot, we too often find they got their inspiration on the internet.
Back when, free speech was in person there were real live people to challenge it. Back when free speech in public meant getting up on a soapbox in the public square or Speaker’s Corner, there were real live people to shout down such lunatic ravings, and the crowd could challenge, boo, etc. True, sometimes nutters and zealots could whip up a mob (Blackshirts and Reds come to mind), but in the US, the mob would shout down someone like Kanye and holler for him to get back on his meds.
On the internet, “listeners” or “spectators” are sitting alone in front of a screen. There are bubbles on the internet where Hitler or the Columbine shooters and other mass murderers are held up as heroes unchallenged. There’s no crowd of average normal people to counter the crazy. And a few mentally unbalanced people find a “cause” to kill for. I can’t see a way to fix this. Crazy people gonna crazy.
I can see why Musk would delete Kanye’s Tweets and ban him. He had already been banned in October for Tweeting “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” Which is a threat of violence not protected as free speech. Elon gave him a second chance and Kanye blew it. I can see where Musk would not want to open himself up to lawsuits for allowing incitement to violence on his platform.
I hope no nutters go out and whoop up on elderly Jews and claim they were inspired by Kanye. The left will bay all the louder for hate speech laws. I am totally against those!
