Russia 29.November: 250 convicts will serve forced-labor sentences at Nizhny Tagil tank and armored-vehicle construction plant

250 people sentenced to “obligatory work” in Nizhny Tagil will serve their sentences at the Uralvagonzavod industrial plant, a nominal cargo-train manufacturer that also produces tanks and armored vehicles for the Russian military. This was reported by the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) for the Sverdlovsk region.

Convicts will work as machine operators, turners, milling and drill operators, grinders, electric welders, mechanics, and crane operators. The state garnishes between four and 20 percent of the salaries earned by people sentenced to forced labor. Still, FSIN officials emphasize that only convicts who are eager to “reform” themselves are eligible for these industrial jobs.

In recent months, the plant has been working overtime: extra shifts have been scheduled for the weekends, and the workday is now four hours longer than usual.

Uralvagonzavod is one of Russia’s largest producers of cargo trains and armored military equipment, including tanks. It is part of Rostec, a state-owned industrial corporation

Previously, the head of Rostec (Uralvagonzavod’s parent company) said that the plant's employees work "in three or four shifts": up to 40% of Russian tanks have been destroyed in the war with Ukraine

the fact that Russia has to dig into prisoner populations says a lot about the state of the Russian economy.

I wonder if they get better treatment than the Jan 6th political prisoners.

It’s free labor.

They should send Britney Griner there.

He/She/Zer/Zim would probably prefer work-release over sitting in a cell all day.

“the fact that Russia has to dig into prisoner populations says a lot about the state of the Russian economy.”

Given the number of Ukrainian KIA and casualties from various sources to include Der Fuhrer UrsalaIdiot, the Ukrainians have already long emptied their prisoner population and sent them to the front as cannon fodder....

This is much better than giving them guns, knives, and uniforms and unleashing them on Ukrainian families in a war zone.

Looks to me like they are learning valuable job skills that will do them well on the outside when they finish serving their terms. Beats a sledgehammer on a rockpile and making big ones into little ones for however many years.

FRiend, have you been to a supermarket, restaurant, bought a car, had a home repaired, happened to see the help wanted sign in front of EVERY American business, etc.? What does that say about the state of our economy?

They already know it. Russia’s reverse sanctions have crippled the US aviation manufacturing markets, I know first hand. I relish the thought when the war cheerleaders realize they have been deceived and lied to, much like Biden’s Covid scam.

“I relish the thought when the war cheerleaders realize they have been deceived and lied to...”

Not going to happen, at least not within the FR forums, be assured.

The are steadfast in their denialism.

The battle lines on maps mean little compared to the economic pain Vlad is inflicting on the EU and West.Ukraine, now an historic welfare state, is totally on western life support, and everyone knows their days are numbered.

Ukraine 1991-2023 RIP, the sooner the better.

Much like the ones that bought into Biden’s Covid vax scam- they are now crickets. When does America wake up? ANYTHING Senile Joe supports or mandates ends up crippling America.

I always thought that we should put Federal prisoners to work mining precious metals on Federal land. The gold and silver and platinum could go into the Federal Treasury.
