French gun owners are surrendering their weapons in record numbers at police collection points across the country as a round up of unlicensed firearms winds down.
France is keen to limit the number of illegally owned firearms – as many as six million, authorities estimate – and the Macron government is offering an amnesty in an effort to limit their distribution.
Rifles, handguns, ammunition, even knives and grenades, have been handed in at 300 collection points across the country since the start of the Ministry of Interior’s campaign on Nov. 25.

Yes, I had to check the date on the article to see if it was from 1940.
Not my circus.
Those who ignore/erase history are bound to repeat it. Maybe not Sieg Heil, but definitely not good.
I came across a gun shop in Nice about 10 years ago.
It was sad. I wish I had taken pictures.
The Foreign Legionnaires weren’t French. They were foreign mercenaries, hence the name.
After all those rerun 1940s headlines from the Russian Front, now we’re getting them from the German Occupation of France.
Wow! It really is that easy to start the process of exterminating a group of people.
You should read up on Dunkirk.
Yes, well their master Macron got very upset when a French man shot and killed someone who broke into his house and was attacking his daughter. He said nobody was allowed to defend themselves. I think it would be a pity if someone held down Macron and forced him to watch as someone he loves was attacked. If it’s good for the peasants, it’s good for you, right Macron?

The French leadership was still stuck in the 19th Century / WWI. They didn’t have a Guderian or even a Liddell-Hart. Interestingly, the French had some excellent tanks that were superior to what the Germans deployed in 1940 against them. But superior German doctrine, organization and leadership overcame that material disadvantage.
Yes, but this guy looks like a hired mercenary from a foreign land, not a born-and-bred Frenchman raised on croissants and Proust.
... Exactly, and how many AK - 47s from the mideast earners were turned in?
That’s been one explosive growth segment of ownership.
Fools
I’m sure the large Muslim population in France surrendered their guns and bombs, right?
Give it a few years and France will look like Philadelphia and New York.
Sheep....
One of my favorite films on the French Foreign Legion is March or Die starring Gene Hackman and Catherine Deneuve. Includes a long scene where the Legionaires make a desperate stand against desert fighters swarming their fort.
Spell Check Bites me again. LOL!!
