The United Nations climate summit in Egypt this month broke ground with a new agreement to compensate poor nations for the effects of global warming. The creation of a loss and damage fund is an important, if overdue, step toward climate justice and one of the top agenda items at the COP27 summit.
The positive news of the fund, however, was overshadowed by the disappointing lack of action by world leaders, who again failed to do what's necessary to stop the root cause of the crisis: the burning of fossil fuels. Until we move decisively to end the use of fossil fuels, the debt to poorer nations will continue to grow.
Most countries are falling far short of their climate goals under the 2015 Paris agreement, and the world isn’t moving anywhere near fast enough to cut pollution and keep global warming from reaching catastrophic levels.
The mixed-bag outcome in Egypt, which brought a measure of progress against a backdrop of ongoing failure, shows that making headway against climate change will require constant, year-round follow-up pressure and protest. Leaders at every level of government and society need to know that we are watching and demanding faster, more aggressive action.

Stop Oil Now!! /s
How about we stop funding the fund?
climate justice = redistribution of wealth.
Because it’s just about communism. No one is really worried about the damn climate.
Outlaw tires, asphalt roads, all plastic everything, rubber bullets and rubber underwear since they are all made with oil.
Milk to be sold in paper bags only as it takes fuel to make glass.
How about every member of the Times editorial board cease all use of fossil fuels immediately?
LA Times has a catch-22 for us.
Lose one way, or lose the other way.
We have to stop fossil fuels industry, or the anti-Fossil fuels industry wins.
My preference? Keep using fossil-fuels, and anger the anti-fossil-fuels proponents, and keep them losing.
Precisely! Name every member of the Editorial Board, and their addresses, and hound them day and night and scream at them if the use ANY energy, and Anything even remotely related to “Fossil Fuels”. Who are they?
This is going to lead to secession or worse in 10 years. Renewables just aren’t good enough without better battery and distribution technology.
Biden gang is eager to give our money to the “climate reparations” fund but the world’s biggest polluter, China, is not on the hook because it’s a “developing nation.”
Without fossil fuels we would likely face a great die off.
But then, that’s probably the point of all this.
Milk in glass?
.
I say 'Worse' - and in less than 10 years - if it is not stopped.
Why the hell do with have a military? To hold “Pride” parades? Take a couple units up to New Yawk and surround the U.N. Then start deporting those third world aholes home one at a time. The U.N. is an obsolete cold war dinosaur and the NUMBER ONE THREAT TO THE RATS’ DEMOCRAZY AND OUR COUNTRY.
Leave the U.N. NOW!
Another way to stop this third world “climate change” money pit is for the U.S. to stop ALL FOREIGN AID TO THESE THIEVING MAGGOTS and bill them for all the foreign aid we sent to them over the last hundred years. After all, without all that “pollution” and fossil fuels, America would not have had the money to send them all that foreign aid.
The UN is evil and must be destroyed.
I will be willing to pay more attention when the Left stops talking and starts building useful alternatives using nuclear methods. Worried about safety? Invest in liquid-salt reactors. Invest in small modular reactors.
SMR power generation would reduce, if not eliminate, transmission loses of power, and also distribute the generating load so that a single event (like forest fire) doesn't knock out service to a large area.
Yes, fuel is a problem, thanks to a certain witch who sold off US uranium. So, turn to thorium, or other power metals. Mid 20th century research shows us the way, we need to expand on the efforts. (If the military wants Plutonium, they can run their own reactors.)
The U.N. sees Biden as a real gold mine free money and Biden’s glad to give.
