Qatar to Supply Liquefied Natural Gas to Germany From 2026

Qatar is to supply liquefied natural gas to Germany under a 15-year deal as the European economic powerhouse scrambles to replace Russian gas supplies that were cut during the ongoing war in Ukraine

Qatar is to supply liquefied natural gas to Germany under a 15-year deal signed Tuesday as the European economic powerhouse scrambles to replace Russian gas supplies that have been cut during the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Officials gave no dollar value for the deal, which would begin in 2026. Under the agreement, Qatar would send up to 2 million tons of the gas to Germany through an under-construction terminal at Brunsbuettel.

The deal involves both Qatar Energy, the nation’s state-run firm, and ConocoPhillips, which has stakes in Qatar’s offshore natural gas field in the Persian Gulf that it shares with Iran.

The tricky part of this is Germany’s greens will rage.

And the deal will be written that if Germany refuses delivery, they still have to pay. Up til now they have refused to agree to this.

I wonder if this story will be retracted.

One million tons of LNG is equal to between 1.38 – 1.41 bcm of gas, so Qatar can deliver about 2.8 bcm annually.

The remaining portion of Nordstream 2 can deliver 27.5 bcm of natural gas.

So, this replaces about 10% of the remaining Nordstream 2 pipeline in 2026.

See my post #3.

This replaces 10% of the possible Russian supply - after a 3 year gap.

Great point about the Greens and the delivery - Germany has been refusing to commit to the long-term deal.

The Greens of Germany are pretty divided in 2022. If you select the top ten core issues....there’s a left side to the party, and a right side. I’d presently say they are in a fragile existence and the more radical side has the potential to pack their bags...leave....giving them only two-thirds of the current public support that they ‘enjoy’.

Remember, in 2021’s fed election...Greens took home 14.8-percent of the vote. It’s not overwhelming support.

Three years out. Enough time for most of the native population to die off or be eliminated, and Germany to then be a muslim hell hole.

THEN they will provide for their own.

"most of the population to die off" - is a huge lie

here is the distribution of power sources for Germany

Their coal, nuclear and renewables capacity add up to 78% of their energy needs. Natural gas is 15%

They recently have decided to loosen the silly coal and nuclear constraints for this winter

For next winter the same is expected - coal is available in Germany.

They aren't going to have "most of the native population die off"

And the Muslims who aren't converts tend to be among the poorer members of society, so expect them to have more deaths than the non-Muslims. Actually let me rephrase that -- migrants up to the second and third generation from the Muslim world would be poorer - I say would be as I can't find any data to support my supposition. The reasons for my supposition are :

  1. The majority of the migrants in the 70s etc. were for factory jobs and were blue collar workers
  2. There are a few who have risen, but among the Germans I've worked with, there were few Turks or other Muslims
  3. the recent migrants tend to be lower skilled and/or poorer

Qatar has more free time after getting knocked out of the first round of World Cup.

You overlook the fact that there are German firms heavily involved with the construction of the Qatar LNG facility that will supply the gas.

Also, the current agreement can be expanded

“Qatar to Supply Liquefied Natural Gas to Germany From 2026”

Funny, my computer says 2022. Good luck Germany!

Looks like Germany is starting to respond to the Neocons taking out their gas pipelines from Russia (or standing by while it happened).

But it is 2 million tons a year, which comes out to about 3 billion cubic meters, roughly 5% of Nordstream 1. Better than nothing.

Also interesting that in 2026, the Freeport TX expansion starts coming on line, so I guess the US Neocons get screwed on this - perhaps take out the German receiving terminal next?

“The tricky part of this is Germany’s greens will rage.”

True, Cutter was told that Germany wanted their gas, but only for a few years, while they implemented Greta’s policies. So Cutter said no-thanks. I guess Cutter is willing to gamble that Germany will at least take this small amount through 2040, which is probably a safe bet by them.

“So, this replaces about 10% of the remaining Nordstream 2 pipeline in 2026. “

Same numbers that I came up with, but don’t forget that Nordstream 1 was running at twice the rate of what’s left of Nordstream 2, so 5% of pre-suicide sanctions level.

The next two winters will likely get the attention of the block-heads there, and the Greens will have a LOT of explaining to do. At least in the US, the Left has to cheat to win elections - in Europe they still win them clean.

We both did our calculations and figured out that it’s very little gas, but what about the 99% of the people reading this article? They see “2 Million” and say “Oh, seems like Germany solved its problem”, as they are given no context by ABC.

At least Reuters puts it in perspective (and matches our numbers)

Funny, I don’t see Putin’s name here, but I do see Victoria Neuland, the instigator of the Ukraine War:

Revisiting totals. Germany is a conduit so comparing to previous Russian imports may not be a pure comparison.

First, the article says up to 2 million tons of LNG to Germany in a 15 year deal. The conversion to cubic meters is 1 million tons LNG = 1.379 billion cubic meters of gas after expansion. So it’s 1.379X2 = 2.76 billion cubic meters. UNITS MATTER.

Germany annual consumption is 90-95 billion cubic meters, annual. That would be 95B/365 = 260 million cubic meters/day. So almost certainly, the Qatari contract is per year. Not the total over 15 years.

Qatar is signed up to provide 3% of German consumption. Germany produces a small amount of natural gas from a dying natgas field. About 5% of consumption. So they must import
roughly 90 billion cubic meters/year.

Some comes from Norway. It’s not all Russian. Latest pre war estimates were about 55%. So Qatar is replacing 5.5% of Russian flow.

Note this is pure German consumption. Some of Nordstream used to re-export from Germany to the rest of Europe.

They are screwed.

First of all, Victoria Neuland doesn’t work for Putin, so how could she convince him to go to war?

Just curious, what country are you from, since you don't know about the U.S.? First of all, Victoria Neuland couldn't possibly be a Neocon. Nobody in their right mind would call her a conservative, and she herself certainly doesn't.

Second of all, Neuland HATES the EU. A secret recording of her was released and she was heard trashing the EU, and praising the U.N. She even went so far as to say, "@#$% the EU."

Angela Merkel hates her, and publicly stated it.
