President Joe Biden on Monday asked Congress to pass legislation to reach an agreement between railroad workers and management after he failed to reach an agreement.
“I am calling on Congress to pass legislation immediately to adopt the Tentative Agreement between railroad workers and operators – without any modifications or delay – to avert a potentially crippling national rail shutdown,” Biden wrote in a statement issued by the White House.
Biden admitted in the statement his advisors and cabinet officials believed there was “no path to resolve the dispute at the bargaining table,” despite his and his administration’s best efforts.

Confusing. So we can pass laws to force people to adopt agreements that they didn’t agree to?
What’s to stop them from striking anyway? If you put them in jail, the trains still ain’t rollin’
Yep. Putting this on congress is ludicrous. They will be going on Christmas break soon.
Congress should stay out of this and let the Biden Rail Strike proceed
I thought the peasants were bending over backwards to do things for Jo Jo the Pedophile after the Blue Crap Storm blew away the Red Mid Term Tsunami.
If your goal is to bring the US economy to a screeching halt......this makes perfect sense doesn’t it?
"...In the name of the general welfare, to protect the safety of people, to achieve full equality and full stability, it was decreed for the duration of the national emergency..."
In summary, all aspects of business fall under the umbrella of government direction and oversight.
This is likely intentional. I swear, they are kicking the can down the road so often, on every little thing, that we are in danger of the road running out.
1. Reckless government and President causes sky high inflation.
2. Workers falling behind, threaten strike to restore purchasing power loss caused by government.
3. Government tries to force them to work to save its bacon.
Never expect government to fix problems it created. If you expect it to make things far worse, you will never be disappointed.
Too bad this strike didn’t happen in August before people started mailing in ballots. It’s almost as if the unions wanted to make sure a strike would not hurt Democrat chances at the polls.
If Congress doesn’t play along with this game or doesn’t reach agreement on a settlement and rail workers go on strike, Biden will have the perfect scape goat when the economy comes to a halt.
A proper leader would call the various leaders into a meeting at the White House and tell them, we are not leaving without a deal, so figure it out, RIGHT NOW, otherwise I will force a solution on you.
A dementia laden leader passes the buck so he can blame someone else for the carnage that is sure to follow.
Well not normally, but the Railroads are a weird deal. They are considered quasi-governmental. It goes back to the 1940 or 1950's when the rail companies were going bankrupt due to automobiles and long haul trucking, the government essentially nationalized portions of them to prop them up under the assumption that allowing them to fail was a national security issue. Still to this day the government runs the retirement plans and such. But part of that deal is the government has a high degree of oversite into the way they are run and can disallow strikes and impose various agreements.
Under this law, Congress has the power to impose a settlement on railroads and their unions. Any attempt to undermine such a settlement would likely get a union decertified and its membership fined into bankruptcy.
This law has nothing to do with the railroads themselves and is designed to protect the U.S. industries that rely on the railroads.
I’m no fan of Biden, but he’s doing exactly what any other U.S. President would do here.
Trump would've summoned both sides to negotiate and banged heads until they came up with an agreement. Therein lies the difference between then and now.
I guess the “unions” that he adores so much, doesn’t give a shit what pudding brain has to say.
Maybe you should give them more money Joe.
The only problem was that every union had to have the agreement ratified by its members. The news stories in recent days have involved some of the individual unions failing to get their members to ratify the tentative deal.
That’s my question. If the union members say NO to a contract proposal, how does Congress have the Authority to FORCE them to abide by it??
If Congress does have that Authority, WHY haven’t they FORCED TEACHERS to accept contracts??
Just Askin.........
Thanks.
Biden: Congress must pass a law forcing Railroad Workers to accept the present deal and stay at work. Because I am afraid of the bad PR with leftists if I have to take measures.
