The Interior Department on Monday proposed rules to limit methane leaks from oil and gas drilling on public lands, the latest action by the Biden administration to crack down on emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to global warming.

The proposal by Interior’s Bureau of Land Management would tighten limits on gas flaring on federal land and require energy companies to better detect methane leaks that add to planet-warming greenhouse gas pollution.

Basically, Brandon is trying to make natural gas even more expensive and harder to come by.

If you like your heat in the winter, you can keep it.

By the way, this make electricity more expensive too because Obama and Brandon forced a lot of power companies to shut down coal plants and replace them with natural gas fueled power plants.

If you like your cheap power for charging your EV, you can keep it.

Sure.

Just pass legislation and tell the methane it can’t leak any more.

That’ll stop it.

Just got my gas bill today. Every six months they recalculate the price and spread it across the finest six months. Last spring it went up 10%. Today it went up another 10%.

The Brandon Administration is unfamiliar with why flaring occurs. Usually, it is a lack of market for a small volume of gas. The other is when a well is on flowback after being fracing and there is too much water to deal with.

Supposedly, while methane is a potent greenhouse gas, not much of it survives in the atmosphere long enough to really be a problem.

In very large quantities (release of methane frozen under the oceans) there might be a problem, but, the real threat of dangerous global warming would come with massive vulcanism (think: The Siberian Traps) — High SO2 levels (modest levels cool) would create acid rain in volume to release CO2 big time, mostly from the rocks where it is sequestered now...

Methane can be recovered and used as fuel...

Yes I know. But inconsistent flare offs need to be ignited. If you can’t produce a consistent flow of gas, it’s difficult and impractical to collect it.

70,000 employees under the control of Liberal Marxist Socialists. 280,000 “volunteers”, 2,400 locations. This new rule will generate more than 40 million for our socialist, communist government to give to their buddies.

Close the Department of Interior permanently along with the DOE, Department of Labor, FBI, DOJ and nearly 1,000 others. Not too long ago we did without them. Not too much longer will their paychecks not BOUNCE. We’re BROKE!

Wait until 2024 when the excess methane taxes kick in. $900/metric ton,$1200/MT 2025, $1500/MT 2026
And they call it the “Inflation Reduction Act”. Harrumph!

The hits just keep on coming. NY gave an official press release of a “sharp rise” in electricity prices this winter. https://www.nyiso.com/-/press-release-%7C-new-york-s-electric-grid-prepared-to-meet-winter-demand

“Just pass legislation and tell the methane it can’t leak any more.”

I am waiting to see the law that regulates cow, ah, emissions.

...methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to global warming.

Global warming? I thought it was called climate change?

Sure wish they would make up their mind about what to call this BS.

They need to remember to regulate termites as well.

Better tell them to restrict their numbers.

Just pass legislation...

You just have to be correct! That will also work for several of these found in Russia:
