Actually, NATO was created to defend against military aggression by the SOVIET UNION (and later Warsaw Pact). Russia is not the former Soviet Union - in fact, Russia spends less on their military than the Brits do:
Because Russia economically just doesn’t have it. Gone are the days of the Soviet Union, who owned the plants, owned the mines, and owned the workers - They actually have to pay for weapons now.
US Military spending is very high - yes. But the procurement regulations force those prices higher. The days of $600 hammers and $2000 toilet seats never really ended - they just got more creative in how to hide those prices.
Not trying to justify - just clarifying.

Gravitas Plus: Did NATO push Ukraine into war?
“On Gravitas Plus, Palki Sharma tells you how Western arrogance & NATO’s expansionism are also to blame, how their actions precipitated the crisis in Ukraine.”
Imagine the reaction that Russia/China/Iran, etc, etc or BRICS putting troops in central America starting out, slowly adding new countries who agreed to have their alliance troops, only to finally put troops in Mexico and the U.S. then, final straw, invades Mexico like Russia invaded Ukraine.
USSR….union of what republics????? Precisely????
The Nato charter doesnt specifically name the Soviet Union. Of course everyone knew what they meant at the time, but even so.
It is interesting reading.

The only “enemy” reference is to members being subjected to “armed attack” or being “threatened”. One can, of course, drive a truck through all those loopholes.
