An iconic ice cream business has threatened to move its Portland headquarters out of Oregon as crime, drug use and homelessness continue to plague the woke Democratic city.
Salt & Straw was created to be a community gathering place, according to its website.
It was set up as a parlor in 2011, and quickly became known as one of the United States' best scoop shops, further bolstering Portland's reputation as one of America's best foodie cities.

Salt and Straw lol...what’s with these Uber-pretentious brands these days.
The Salt & Straw branch on Fillmore Street in San Francisco is pretty woke, I think. They were asking for proof of covid vax long after other restaurants had given up on that nonsense. I don’t buy ice cream there, and never have, but I walk past the place and saw their covid rules posted up until very recently. To their credit, though, the Salt & Straw store smells really good from the street. Not sure if it’s the burnt sugar aroma of homemade waffle cones or what, but one of the best smelling stores around.
“...and homeless camp fire forced its factory to close.”
Oh boy. Baked Alaska!
“Not sure if it’s the burnt sugar aroma of homemade waffle cones or what, but one of the best smelling stores around.”
Could the burnt sugar aroma come from the incinerated homeless camp burning their factory?
That’s pretty typical admittedly with a lot of the woke stores: horrible snobby atmosphere with excellent (though way over priced) products.
What are you doing walking around Fillmore St.? I used to love going to a little tavern on Fillmore - can’t remember the name, probably not there anymore- this was the early 90’s when I lived at Haight and Webster
“What are you doing walking around Fillmore St.?”
Ha, why not? The Salt n Straw store is at Fillmore & Sacramento... probably one of the safest commercial corners in town. But truthfully, I walk all over town (well not “all” but a lot of it)... good exercise. 12 miles today, actually.
The most interesting and dangerous thing about them is that they have powerful totalitarian urges (they seek to grow to a point of absolute domination and will destroy anyone or anything in their way).
Peterson often quotes Jung by saying that "people don't have ideas, ideas have people."
I still have a Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention record album, ‘Live at the Fillmore East’. They sure don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
And half the state votes to leave Oregon and join Idaho.
I do love San Francisco. My grandfather was a 21 year old carpenter after the big earthquake in 1906. Worked there rebuilding structures for a year or two, signed up for a trip to Hong Kong building bridges after that. He was signed up at Port of San Francisco and had to sign an affidavit that he wasn’t being shanghai’d
Isn’t it interesting how the “woke” complain so much about the unwoke until bit by the reality of the results of being woke. And then, of course, they blame the results of their woke policies on the unwoke while the unwoke are attempting to fix the problems caused by the woke. Pretty sure the term “woke” doesn’t mean what everybody seems to think it means.
Democrats ruin every nice place they touch.
Oh well l quit giving a 💩 about blue states you get what you vote for
Just leave. Threatening to leave isn’t going to make a lick of difference.
What did they expect? Portland gave domestic terrorists permission to establish an “autonomous zone” in which laws didn’t apply and the only ones who had any rights were the terrorists who were allowed and encouraged to burn, destroy, rape and assault. Anybody who remained in Portland accepted the unlawful behavior of their government and accepts the consequences of living there.
When you look at Portland, what you’re really looking at is inside the mind of Ted Wheeler & the liberalism he worships as his shared-misery progressive commie utopia devolves into a stinking cesspool of evil. Of course it’s not safe. It’s past time to leave if you don’t have the stomach for trained EDC & tactical medicine. Trying to run a business in that environment would be nearly impossible.
I left PDX after spending almost my entire life there - much happier now not having to drive by the tents, garbage & worrying about those people drifting into my neighborhood.
Great record, that one.
Zappa always surrounded himself with the very best musical talent he could find.
