As a possible rail way strike looms, the U.S. industry braces for impact.
One of the biggest rail unions rejected a deal earlier this week failing to approve contracts over concerns about demanding schedules and the lack of paid sick time.
Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) is warning American consumers that it is “highly likely” a strike will happen in the midst of the busy holiday season.
“I think it’s highly likely,” Hagerty said, adding “I mean, you hit the nail on the head. The union bosses basically forced their union members to buck up and accept this deal just to get them through the…midterm elections. But now we’re seeing the reality of it. They only offered one additional work day — one additional sick day, I should say. The unions were asking for 15. That’s a big, big gap. Joe Biden declared victory, again, before the midterm elections. This was all, I think, part of the plan. But what we’re seeing now, the whole thing is coming unraveled and it’s going to be a real crisis, a $2-billion-a-day economic impact if you believe the economists’ estimates. I actually think it could be much greater, because if you look at the knock-on effects on supply chains, it will be significant.”
The strike can start as soon as December 9, and it wouldn’t take long for it to effect the economy.
Hagerty called out President Joe Biden for deceiving the public, saying that he told the nation that he had a plan in place well before the midterm elections.
Meanwhile, United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said the Biden administration is trying to make sure a strike doesn’t happen, saying that there is not enough trucks, barges or ships to make up for the already-suffering railway network. ***

It is not illegal when Democrats do it.
After all, remember 2016 when PAC minions boasting before cameras of their personal knowledge of illegal collusion between Clinton, the DNC and different PACs and nothing happened to anyone?
Meanwhile, the genius long-term planners we pay gazillions in taxes for?
Tore up railways all over the place to make bike paths.
Buttplug is on the case.
HaHaHaHaHa...what an evil joke.....
The “joke” isn’t evil, but the far Left poofter....
Why are we talking about railway strikes when we really need to focus on and organize a protest against Elon Musk for reinstating Trump to twitter?
Biden Depression II 2023
Thanks to all who voted Democrat!
Thanks a lot!
The rail routes that were converted into bike trails were unviable for the railroads and were abandoned long before. Railroads have significant threshold costs for maintenance of way, bridge maintenance, signaling, insurance, property taxes, etc., and at some level of traffic - it’s not worth owning and operating over it. The rail network flourished in the 1880’s and then started shrinking in the 1920’s. The number of rail miles ever operated at its peak is a large multiple of what is economically feasible to operate today.
The news media repeats this story over and over, never going more than a thimble deep. Which unions are involved? What are the specific details of the bargaining issues involved? Don’t hold your breath for answers...
Millions of people voted Dem. They deserve to suffer.
If the union wants something Biden is under obligation to bow to them although the union bosses are taken for granted every election and members can’t stop the allocation of union dues for Dem donations.
Far back on “the caboose of the train” are the good people (us).
Unintentionally by him, Bob Dylan’s Only A Pawn In Their Game (1964) and out of context.....
For the politician’s gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain’t him to blame
He’s only a pawn in their game
The deputy sheriffs, the soldiers, the governors get paid
And the marshals and cops get the same
But the poor white man’s used in the hands of them all like a tool
I imagine that they will give the Railway workers whatever they want.
We’re not human, we’re ‘consumers’.

Take a look at all the articles with the same headline and almost the same article.
Looms is the word of the day.............................
This could be good for the American Consumer, so far they have not had real pain yet, maybe they will now?
Are we to believe that rail workers have absolutely no paid sick leave? Seems unlikely. Any rail workers on this board to confirm or deny?
“the already-suffering railway network.” The suits have been downgrading the railroads for decades now. Ripped up too much track and canned too many workers.
I say strike. Bring it to their doorstep.
Has anyone talked about Paul Hilal, his hedge fund Mantle Ridge, Hunter Harrison & his squad, and all the executives and union bosses that sat by, made money on their stock purchases and didn’t say sh*t as Harrison’s “efficiency model” took hold?
Nope. I didn’t think so
All of this can be traced back to early 2017 when Hílal and Harrison got control of CSX.
And, as usual, the little guy is gonna lay the bill
And will they ask the railroads about all the positions they’ve been cutting to lower overhead and boost stock prices? NOPE
Will they ask the unions to provide the documentation of how the unions fought all of those cuts? Nope. Why? Because the union bosses were making money from their stock purchases so they didn’t care.
Yup. And those costs will have a massive ripple effect that will be felt forever.
It comes to your doorstep and to the doorstep of everyone you know.
