What he doesn’t mention is that a major factor in the House GOP debacle in 2018 was the massive loss of suburban seats in places like New York, New Jersey, Virginia and California due to the state and local tax (SALT) cap that was written into Ryan’s 2017 budget bill.
The GOP only managed to win some of those seats back in 2022 because the Democrats had two years to follow through on their 2018 and 2020 campaign promises to eliminate the SALT cap, but didn’t do it.
If the new House with a narrow Republican majority doesn’t figure out how to get that issue fixed, I predict the party will suffer losses in 2024 in those same districts.
