CHICAGO (CBS)-- A woman who has a concealed carry license took on four armed men who tried to carjack her early Wednesday morning in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.
Police said a 23-year-old woman was sitting in her car shortly after 2 a.m. near 89th Street and Kenwood Avenue, when four men got out of a black sedan, and one of them tried to open her car door while flashing a gun.
The woman, who has a concealed carry license, shot that man in the head, then ran off from her car.
Another of the would-be carjackers shot the woman in the left arm.
The woman was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in fair condition.
The man she shot was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
The other three attackers got away.
A short time after that attack, a man was found shot and killed inside a stolen Kia, about 2.5 miles away in Chatham.

They saw a young single woman, all alone. They were not expecting her to be carrying heat. Surprise, surprise!
Being out at 2am in Chicago is asking for problems.
Her mistake was sitting in a car in Chicago at 2 AM in the morning.
Never,never, never.
This is why magazine capacity is important and why I don’t recommend revolvers. Assuming a minimum of two rounds per target needed to stop a threat (because not even Carlos Hathcock would guarantee a one-shot-stop with a pistol), four assailants and a five shot J-Frame, do the math. In fact, it’s getting more common to have to use more rounds per assailant as drugs are boosting resistance.
Also note that contrary to the assertions of many, shooting the first one didn’t make the rest stop.
I have seen a report of this incident that she was blocked in by the assailants’ vehicle, but haven’t seen any pictures. I’m guessing it was head-in parking next to a sidewalk or building and she didn’t have a vehicle that could climb the curb or that there wasn’t room.
That said, sitting in an immobile vehicle with a firearm-carrying assailant is a really good way to end up dead. Experienced cops call their cruisers “The Tomb” in a firefight for a reason.

Some people (e.g., night shift bartenders) work and make an honest living during the night. In any case, she was wise to have a CCL and enough training to immediately overcome the natural hesitancy to shoot another person. Hope her arm injury is not too severe.

Not immediately but it did RAPIDLY make them flee from her or, perhaps more correctly, from her weapon.
Disagree, because according to this and other reports the other assailants pursued her while shooting at her. They weren’t fleeing.
Taurus makes a 7 shot revolver
Taurus Model 692 357 Mag / 38 Special / 9mm 7-Shot Revolver
Are you feeling lucky punk
Was that 5 or 6 ....?
7 isn’t really enough either. Assuming two rounds minimum per assailant, you’re still one round short when faced with a pack of four attackers.
Meanwhile, my EDC pistol is 13+1 of .45 in a smaller and lighter package than that 692 - and that’s before throwing a +2 floorplate on it.
That’s why I have two J-frames.
What, the New York Reload?
Maybe she had just entered or parked her car while going to or from work.
